Useful tool if you work from your truck, terrible instructions
The problem is, as others have noted, the instructions. They're worthless. Actually less than worthless, since they portray functions that don't apply (Such as: There's a gauge implement that comes with the tool, and the instructions show it being used as a flathead screwdriver for making a height adjustment. The height adjusting screw on my model is a Phillips head). So after futzing around with trying to set height and apply angles according to specs, I decided that was all bunk, plugged it into the dash of my truck and eyeballed it. Took a couple of minutes, max. Walked down to the hardwood trunk that had been too much for the saw before sharpening, and went through that sucker in nothing flat. Now that I've sharpened it, the original Oregon low-kickback chain cuts far better than it did fresh out of the box.My advice: Use the instructions to help you pick out the right stone and get that set up, put the height adjustment in the mid position (your chain will let you know if you need more or less once you start sharpening) and understand that for all the apparent precision of chain pitch, the visual pitch guides are nothing but general visual reference. Don't worry about it.A note about the power supply. It's really nice to have a tool that can run off DC current from my truck in the field, but the truth is that do most of my equipment maintenance in my shop. If you're thinking you'll plug it into your garage outlet and tune up your saw, forget it. This tool is for the glovebox of your truck.Since I can't set my saw on my work bench, I'd hoped the cord would be long enough to let me work off my tailgate. Nope. It's just kind of an awkward length. Gets you half way to someplace useful.

Does what it's supposed to
I never owned a chain sharpener before so I bought a lot of new chains. When I saw a neighbor using his Oregon Sure Sharp and how easy it was to sharpen a chain, I bought one for myself. When my saw starts spewing sawdust instead of chips, I know it's time to sharpen; this is usually about the same time I run out of gas, so gassing up is a good time to sharpen and re-tension the chain.Operation is simplicity itself; the only trick is to keep the tool at the correct angle for your chain and perpendicular to the bar. My 16" chain has 28 teeth so it takes me 3-4 minutes to sharpen it.Some reviewers have complained about the quality of the Sure Sharp. I've only been using mine for a month (about 20 uses) so I can't comment on it's long-term reliability. However, so far no complaints. Very happy with my purchase and it was only a few dollars more than buying a new chain. As an aside, I just purchased additional grinding stones from Lowe's for about $4.50 for a package of 3 stones. My Lowe's store doesn't carry the Sure Sharp tool but at least I can get replacement stones locally. Home Depot had neither.

Great Time and Money Saver, Easy to Use
I have a Stihl chainsaw I have 5 chains for. If I take them in to have them sharpened, it costs me over 1.5 hours of driving and waiting, and $75 at $15 per chain. I use it one time and it's paid for itself more than twice over and I'm done in well under an hour. I just keep a deep cycle battery, I already had as a spare, next to the workbench to connect the sharpener to and charge it every so often. I'm a big fan of Stihl, but ther portable sharpener is a bit to bulky and awkward for my taste.

WORKS GREAT AND EASY TO USE - OREGON SHARP CHAIN SAW SHARPENER
We got two of these sharpeners. My husband was amazed how easy it was to use and it also had quick results. Few times back and forth, and it already created a nice shiny new surface as you move along each section. It also has angle guides. If you had manually sharpened your chain saw before, then you will notice a difference in how long it takes to do the proper sharpening. The second sharpener was for a friend who lives in a mountainous region and regularly uses the chain saw. We thought it made a great gift.

Good sharpener and very easy to use
I've never sharpened a chain manually but after getting this electric sharpener I probably never will. The sharpener makes for easy work only takes me between 5-10 min to sharpen all the cutters on an 18" Poulon Pro. I got the chainsaw against everyone's advice on Black Friday. I'm convinced that the saw works so well because I keep it sharp, 5-10 min every two tanks of gas or after hitting something hard. I've seen other Poulon Pros that wouldn't cut through a ripe watermelon and I now know it wasn't the saw but the chain was dull and the el cheapo saws just don't have the power to muscle through it.

Best all around Sharpener
I had an Oregon 12v sharpener before this one that was sadly stolen with my ATV. I liked it so much I bought another one.Pros--My opinion is this is most versatile for me, it can go where I am anywhere...so I can sharpen in the field where I need it.-Small size makes it very portable...it could even go into your larger pocket if needed.Cons--Quality is my biggest concern here ... I believe this unit is made "out of town" now, and the length of service will be questionable.- It lacks a decent carrying case....something that zips up would be nice to have with this unit.-Price due to Quality and no Case ... is tgoo high.

The tool is great and easy to use but halfway through the first chain the bit disintegrated and after looking at the other 2 bits that came with it noticed that one of them was already falling apart unused. So now I have a half sharpened chain and have to get new bits. Order the diamond bits with it and you will be happy

It came with two sizes of sharpening stones. The one I needed and used once, broke and is not longer of use. I went back to manual sharpening with a file.
