The best on the market so far.
there are competiing designs for power bases Tilta has a version yc onion has a version and they have different features The YC Onion takes 2 npf batterys which is handy if you have npf batteries but there isn't a safety rail giving a second way of attaching to the gimbal, granted DJI didn't feel the need for one but you are still hoping the battery handle will not release with your camera mounted. So i prefer the designs by tilta and smallrig for this feature. This design of smallrigs is better than tilta's because they have included 2 nato rails on the power base and 2 power ports, the tilta version does not have the nato rails and has one power connection and thats it.by having the 2 nato rails you can use a dual handle with it.. if you use a remote control handle either tilta's or smallrigs the reciever can go on the dji right nato port with the control pins. Actually its worth noting that small rigs remote reciever has a built in nato rail so you can still attach a rear handle to the gimbal Tiltas has nothing. So you are fairly limited with the tilta version. The smallrigs 2nd powerport is useful for powering your camera. They have a power plate which replaces the camera plate on the Gimbal. So you can power from a single vmount battery which could easily be placed in a shoulder bag, which is less weight on your arms. So given a choice between tilta and smallrigs version this one is a clear winner. It's not perfect though, i would make 1 design change the safety plate has a cold shoe mount on it, it would be much better to have put a nato rail in its place. that would give 4 nato rails either side. As is its good but maybe a bit top heavy.I think its worth mentioning the 2 remote systems from tilta and smallrig, because tilta doesnt have the nato rail built into the reciever its a little less useful, however it can control tilta's follow focus and dji's currently smallrigs remote doesn't control a follow focus. However they have a unit in co design which should control the dji focus motor. So tilta is currently the most useful remote system but when Smallrig bring out the 4025 you maybe happy with the smallrig remote. It's also worth noting that tilta have a motorised Nd filter so having a second controller could be something you want. The tilta remote has a switch to go between dji and tilta follow focus systems. maybe this is where having the smallrig focus control maybe a better option leaving the tilta control for the variable nd perhaps.I do wish these 2 companies would be a little more interoperable with each others products. At least in this case i can say this powerbase will work with Tilta and Smallrig on the RS2.
