M MAXIMUMCATCH Maxcatch Fly Fishing Stripping Basket for Boat Super Light Floating Flexible

I'm an avid fly fisherman (fisher?) and spend 150+ days in the "salt" or in/on a river somewhere back north for Steelhead, Browns or Salmon. This is the first stripping basket I've owned, and I bought it specifically to fish the "surf" here in south Fl which I fish occasional. Most of my time fishing "salt" is spent wading, or in my kayak, or in a power boat and I've never felt the need for a stripping basket. My latest trip to the surf made me realize that the wave action and current really affects the slack line off the reel which never seems to be in a place where I can recast after stripping...it's around me or my feet and legs or as bad pulled out 40 feet in front of me out into the surf by current. This basket was a gamechanger. It works beautifully keeping the line in order and tangle free, is comfortable and can be adjusted easily so as not to affect casting stroke or stripping action. Maybe I'm missing something but as per my title not sure why there is a need to spend any more than what this basket costs....I'll save my $$ and spend that on high quality gear like rods and reels!

I absolutely hate when people review an item before they use it. Most of the time this is due to Amazon requesting a review a few minutes after the item is received. Brilliant.I have not used the stripping basket but can say the design is very good. The two slots in the top sides accommodate a rod placed to rest in EITHER direction. It is light. It is flexible. It is made of a silicone-like material instead of the brutal Tupperware polypropylene. Someone did their homework on this design. As I stated earlier, I have not used it yet but I am sure that what I have reported is valuable.

This is a nice little stripping basket, but perhaps a little too small for me compared with my regular stripping baskets. I bought it because it is shown to be flexible so I was hoping I could “flat pack” it into a suitcase for travel. But I found it to be not quite as flexible as I hoped and it would need some brute force to really squash this thing into a small space. The internal spikes are quite rigid, adding to the difficulty in folding it up. But it is very comfortable to wear and will do as a travel stripping basket. Adding some small holes might help drain untainted water, especially when wading in deep shoreline water with waves.

I have never used a stripping basket and now I know what I was missing. Good size basket with integrated strap system to mount to you waist. Made of a rubberized type plastic that is somewhat flexible but strong enough to hold its shape. Makes keeping you fly line safe and tangle free when stripping your line. Love it.
