Best tipping cap if you....
To achieve a heavy silver highlight look (salt & pepper) look, I have been using this tipping cap every 3-4 months for over 10 years and have discovered some useful techniques when using it. I have a hat size of 7 & 1/2 and have medium length hair (for a guy). People with hat sizes larger than 7 and/or people with very thick hair, may experience a little more difficulty when using this product. These are a few things I have felt useful when using this product:(1) I apply a generous amount of virgin coconut oil throughout my hair after waiting at least 24 hours since the last shampoo. This is better for hair, facilitates pulling the strands through the cap & expedites the bleaching process.(2) I apply a 1CM width strip of duct tape and double ply it to the inside and outside of the cap to extend about 6 inches beyond the cap margins - on both sides. This is a makeshift way of securing the cap under your chin in a shoe-tie fashion. This has prevented the cap from pulling up a bit off the head and maintains even coverage as it conforms to the shape of your head.(3) After I apply the bleach (I have tried just about every type of lift & developer and in my opinion, Ion Color Brilliance Sensitive Scalp 30 Volume Creme Developer & Schwarzkopf BLONDME Premium Lift - to be the best, quickest and least irritating to the scalp bleaching combo), then I secure two processing caps over this. My medium thick, level 4 (dark brown) hair will bleach to the desired pale yellow color in 30 minutes. I do not bleach until my hair is "white" (which can severely damage the hair) and I do NOT use heat. Too much heat can cause the bleach to expand too much and "bleed" back through the holes onto the scalp. (a little warmth with a blow dryer for about 5 minutes set on LOW setting is ok to activate the chemicals for thick level 1,2 hair)(4) After the bleaching process, I wipe the bleaching mixture with a damp towel first & then LIGHTLY rinse. I do NOT remove the cap yet. This allows me to apply toner over the cap and on to the freshly bleached strands for an additional 15 minutes (I use Wella Color Charm Toner - #T18 [Lightest Ash Blonde] and 30 Volume Creme Developer to achieve the white/silver color). I also apply a hair processing over the toner as well.(5) Thoroughly rinse off the toner over a sink first & then shampoo (with the Magicap still on). It is at this point that I remove the Magicap and shampoo/condition all my hair. This whole process takes one hour and I can achieve the highlighting look I want in less time at a fraction of the cost.To keep the silver tone and prevent the brassy tone, I thoroughly saturate my hair with shimmer lights conditioner under a processing cap for about 45-60 minutes every week. These are some of the pertinent things I have found to be helpful when using this cap. I hope this helps .... Good Luck!

Great for do it yourself but not for salon use, better pay for foils if you go to a salon!
I'm a cosmetologist, and while it's frowned upon to do highlighting caps, I purchased this one because it's hard to foil your own head. I don't trust anyone else to do my hair but me and my husband assists me when I need help with the back of my head. I'm rating this 4 stars because even though this isn't the best way to highlight your hair, I'm soley rating it because it's the best highlighting cap I've used even before I became a hair dresser. This is the best cap to use if you're doing your own highlights. First, you need to punch the holes before you use. Because it's a silicone cap, the bleach didn't leak through because it seals back up after you pull the hair through. I docked a star only because it's painful since it's silicone and it pulls the hair because of it but I can't see another material being better since the disposable ones leak and rip. I also hate how the hair rips at times, part being that it's a silicone cap. It stays put and form fits on my head so the HL gets close enough to the scalp. I plan on using this again. I use powder bleach and developer but I plan on using color and 30 volume for every 3 HL sessions I do to add more definition. Definitely recommend this cap as a do it yourselfer.

Works well! But I can't handle the smell.
I’ve used this brand cap for many years. It works well and prevents color bleed through. It is an acquired skill and might be difficult the first timer.I deducted a star because the price has doubled. Sally’s sold these up to a few years ago for about $8.Update after using: Everything I said above is still true. I used this new cap yesterday and the odor from it was overwhelming. It's that awful plastic? odor. I didn't think I was going to be able to finish my hair it was so strong. It even overwhelmed my bathroom hours later. It is now inside a sealed brown bag in a closet! If it doesn't dissipate, I will be asking to return. Update- It's been about 10 days and it still has an awful smell. I soaked it in baking soda and water for 24+ hours and no help. It's currently hanging in a bathroom I don't use and the odor drifts into the hallway!

Ripped to crown after third use
The cap was HUGE on me and I had to trim down four inches just to be able to see what I was doing. Once trimmed, it is no longer able to curl up at the edge to protect drips, etc. The holes are hard to punch through and difficult to see (I have since color marked the holes I like to use) and it is much more tedious and takes much longer to thread through the hair than with a tie-on cap, nor is it terribly easy to get the hair back in or adjust if you've grabbed too big a hank of hair. However, on the up side, the tightness of the cap prevents colorant from bleeding though, it really is self-healing, and I like that the cap is so form-fitting. The tightness of the cap makes doing normal stuff with your head easier than the tie-on caps when waiting for your colorant to do its thing. While it may have taken me considerably longer to get hairs through the cap, the overall result of streaking was far superior than anything I've ever gotten with a tie-on cap, and I've been streaking my hair for 40 years. The cap is pricey (especially when shipping is added on) for a one-shot deal, and it may take a little getting used to, however if you consistently streak or tip your hair, this reusable cap should be part of your beauty arsenal.UPDATE: CAP RIPPED ALL THE WAY TO THE CROWN TAKING IT OFF AFTER THIRD USE. NOW A USELESS WASTE OF GOOD MONEY.

Not for the beginner or do it yourselfers!!!!!
I am not a professional but have been doing my own hair coloring for many years. When perms were in style I did my own as I did not trust anyone else. So I thought I might put a little pizzazz in my color by doing a bit of high lighting. For me the cap was like an old bathing suit cap with TINY holes that were really hard to pull hair out of. I can see where it is of high quality and will last a number of times but I could not get it to work once for me. Maybe if I had a friend help me?!!!! If you are looking for a good quality cap this is it but I had no idea it was so hard to do.
