Post Shields work great....
I spent a ton of time prepping and refinishing my deck over the past month. I wanted to cover the base of the posts, that have been chewed up by my weed eater, and found this product. I tried an adjustable metal set first that claimed to expand to cover a 6" x 6" and they just didn't look right. These are specifically designed for a 6" x 6" post, which is ACTUALLY 5.5" x 5.5". Very important to measure before you buy to make sure the dimensions are correct. They can be tricky to install, but it can be accomplished pretty easily by tapping with a hammer. After installing, I went a step further and secured them with one centered black screw per side as they can move around when using a weed eater. Two posts butt up against my concrete walkway, so I simply cut the ends off of two sides and slide them up against the concrete. The black screws hold the three sides nicely. I had to buy a $5 plexiglass cutter to cut the straight edge and it worked great. In summary, these post shields take a little effort to install and really make the deck look great. I highly recommend them and if Amazon is out, you can find them online from Home Depot.

GREAT PRODUCT
My gardeners were chewing away at my new mailbox wooden post at the bottom. This guard arrived quickly and is very sturdy. Was not real easy to apply as it fits tight to the wooden post so I have the last piece I put in sticking up because I could not slide it all the way down but it's secure enough it should protect my post. Post was a bit wet from sprinklers when I installed it so will try to slide last panel all the way down when the post is dry and wood shrinks (4x4 post). I would buy it again!

These work great! READ and measure before ordering, and you will be fine!
I have made multiple orders of these, because I have quite a few fence posts to protect. I have a new house, and we just finished painting/water sealing the entire fence. At a previous house, my fence posts were damaged over time by the lawn guys using a weed eater. So, I wanted to be proactive and protect the posts now. If you look - most of the negative reviews are from people who didn't pay attention to the size info. I measured my fence posts ahead of time. They WERE 3.5"x 3.5" in real measurements. So, I ordered 1 to see how it worked. It did fit. If your post is a true 4" x 4", then yes, it will not fit. But, please read the instructions. I assume that the same is to be said for the 5.5" size. If you post is larger than a TRUE 5.5" size, then yes, it's not going to fit. So, please read the details on the item BEFORE you order them. As I have installed more and more of these, I have gotten better at installing them. Installing one on a corner is the trickiest situation. And, you will need a hammer to knock in the 4th side. Basically, you put 3 sides together BEFORE you put it on the post - then wrap that around the post. Then, you work on lining up the 4th side - finally using a hammer to knock it all the way down. My first one took me probably 10 minutes to install. Now, I can do them in probably 2 minutes each. Only 1 gave me a bit of trouble. My last order was split into 3 shipments by Amazon for some reason, so I am still waiting on some more to arrive. But, I'll be finished soon. I plan on touching up the posts with some more water seal/stain when I am all done, as the hammer can sometimes leave marks on the post while knocking that 4th side into place. I am satisfied with these. Hopefully they hold up over time. I certainly hope so. But, if you are like me, you look at the bad reviews of any item first. I would say that the vast majority of the negative reviews are from people who did not read the details before they ordered this item. They are for sale at other vendors online too, and the reviews on those sites have the same issue - people didn't bother to measure their post before ordering.

Protection and style
I like how this product not only shields my post from getting torn up by the weed eater, but it also gives the mailbox a nice finished look. It's like additional trim at the bottom that completes the look of the mailbox.

Product doesn’t fit. Do not buy.
I got a new mailbox installed with a 6x6 post. I was excited to get the 6x6 Post Shield to protect the bottom of the wood post from lawn care damage. Unfortunately, the Post Shield is too small and impossible to fit properly on the post. I measured the post and it is exactly 6x6. The problem with the Post Shield is that when you attach the sides together, it takes about 1/4 inch off each side, making it impossible to fit around the post. Each side of the Post Shield measures exactly 6”. Attaching them together reduces the sides to about 5 3/4 inches. The bottom line is that this product was designed poorly, not accounting for the reduction in size when assembling the product. I wasted $15 for a product that doesn’t fit. So disappointed. My recommendation is do not buy if your post measures 6x6.

Heavy duty! Had to glue on.
We had to glue these on the get them to stay (and Reggie every 6 to 9 months, but they saved our deck poles from the lawnmowers and weed eaters that were eating them up, for many years. The plastic never faded, chipped, or broke.

measure your mailbox
Not sure what to rate this, not fair to rate it 1 star since it looks like it must fit a lot of mailboxes, but our 6 year old house and all the others around us have 3.75 x 3.75 inch posts for some reason. So this didn't fit. Make sure your post is actually 3.5 x 3.5. Also don't feel like it would be 5 stars anyway because it doesnt seem very sturdy.

Worked for me!
These post shields served my purpose well! My deck posts were a tad bigger than 5.5”, so I could not attach the fourth section. I had to use a zip tie which worked fine. Most posts aren’t exactly a certain size so you need to measure and take that into account! Perfect for me!
