Fine for what it is
Good enough for what it is. A knife like this, is made for one thing: stabbing. It doesn't need a double edge, it doesn't need a full tang. It is not meant to be a utility knife. It is meant to stab through things, and the single edge spear point with this knife will do that just fine with no issue. IMO, it is more impressive than the smaller 4.5" or so double edge HRT that comes with the leather sheath. This one comes with a real sheath, a kydex sheath. I didn't care for the clip so I took the belt loop off of one of my Cold Steels I don't really carry all that much (the 6" SRK), and it fit just fine. Out of the box, not the sharpest. A few swipes across the honing rod and it now shaves just fine.

Nice size questionably light weight.
For a self defense item these seem like a great option from a size perspective. I also like the sheath more than any of the other sheaths I’ve received with other knives. The only downside to the sheaths is that they seem almost certainly likely to slow down the blade extraction if they aren’t clipped to anything for people who might prefer carrying them lose in their pockets. Part of that is also because of how lightweight the blades are. From a self defense standpoint the blades being that lightweight is a mixed bag. If you’re not defending yourself against an ordinary burglar wearing lightweight clothing it should be fine but if you’re going against an ex soldier type wearing even basic protective gear then I doubt they’d be all that effective.

Razor sharp out of the box
This is an excellent blade, just what I expect for the exacting standards of Smith and Wesson. I was able to shave hair off of my arm right away. The blade does not need sharpening or honing.

I like the sheath, it came nice and sharp and was affordable. However, it doesn't have two edges like the images and the listing name imply. It also feels pretty good in the hand. However, do keep in mind the steel used in this knife is not of particularly great quality and if you regularly cut weedeater line or something similarly tough (like I do) you will need to sharpen this thing once every couple of days. In fact, this knife dulled harvesting scapes off of garlic plants. The reason I didn't rate this higher is that not only does it have poor edge retention, but it doesn't come with a sharpening stone or some form of sharpener. It would be less of an issue to have fairly poor edge retention if this knife came with the tools to maintain it. I luckily have a whetstone, so I am able to make it work; However, not everyone does, so the lack of some means of sharpening it will certainly be a downside if this is the only knife you have (and this IS a budget knife).
