Excellent knife block
Excellent knife block. I think this is new to Amazon. I had ordered a knife lock very similar and much more expensive. I didn’t like it so I sent it back. This is a very reasonable price. It’s solid, has plenty of room. I can fit all my knives in it. So much better than the expensive one I sent back. I think this is great I highly recommend it.

Good block, but a few small design caveats
This type of block works particularly well for knives that don’t fit in the usual slotted knife blocks, like taller cleavers and thicker traditional single bevel Japanese style knives. The bristles have a bit of an X-shaped cross section (pic) and are all glued at the bottom to a solid square tray (pic). So, it’d be best to make sure your knives are fully dry before storing them in here since there’s very little air flow for evaporation. Slotted blocks are usually open at both ends to avoid this. Another slight con is sharper knives will occasionally slice the bristles, so keep an eye out for tiny plastic shavings on your blades before use. Pic of plastic shavings on a white ceramic blade after pulling it in & out of the block a few times. A simple swipe of cloth removes them. The quality of the wooden part of the block is good at the current price ($19), but isn’t exactly artisan craftsmanship (my wedge piece is somewhat askew, and its glue job isn’t perfect). Max depth of about 8.25” (pic). After taking out the bristle patch for an initial wash/rinse, it took days to fully dry the deeper area (maybe less if you’re somewhere really with really dry air). Some time with a blow dryer on low heat while spreading the bristles helped to speed things up. Not knocking anything off for that, but something to keep in mind.

Attractive and sturdy modern knife block
I much prefer this modern style of knife block, where the knives are inserted into an array of tightly-packed plastic bristles rather than fixed slots in solid wood. You are not limited to the available slots, you can insert more knives and in any pattern desired. There is enough "give" in the bristles to insert enough knives to fill the block, all the way to their hilts. Compared to other blocks of similar height, this block has a larger inner throat diameter (5" x 5") that accommodates more knives. The array of bristles is removable (see picture). Over time, the tips of the bristles may gather dust. To clean, empty the block, remove the array of bristles and rinse under warm water. Let the bristles dry completely before replacing them in the block. If you are planning to place the block on a counter under a cabinet, when considering clearance, figure the height of the block PLUS the handle length of longest knife that will be placed in the block. The description mentions "non-skid feet" for the block. Mine didn't come with any, and I don't miss them. The bottom surface of the block is sanded very smooth, so it won't scratch the counter. The block is also heavy, so it is not going to slide around on the counter.
