Are the dimensions shown accurate? Someone else said their stone's thickness was much less

I have this stone, I left it soaking for a month. Nothing bad happened. Might want to change out the water on a weekly basis though or it will grow scum.

Is this ideal for usage with an axe or hatchet? Or should I look for a different kind of whetstone?

It can be used to sharpen an axe. But its a pretty fine grit stone for sharpening an axe unless you're refining the edge. Also the size and weight of the stone can make it a little hard to sharpen an axe. Maybe an "axe puck" or buy the stone and cut it into thirds.
