One-Block Wonders Cubed!: Dramatic Designs, New Techniques, 10 Quilt Projects

This is not a beginner’s book. I’ve made the original one block wonder quilt, but this one offers more design ideas.

This book provides easy to follow, step by step instructions that make even a novice look good! If you like One Block Wonder OBW quilts, this is a must have for your library!

I've not made this pattern for many years, but I was inspired to do so recently. First I made 9 kaleidescopes and set them individually for a charity quilt. Then I made a large lap quilt in the usual setting, plus with the cubes that appear to rise off the surface. I'm now making another larger one in purples. They are fun to make. They look difficult and intricate, but they are easy to make.

Loved this book. I have the book one block wonders encore. This book is even better. A lot of great ideas. Some of the concepts were not easy to grasp on the first read. Just take your time reading the instructions. All the information is there to make these amazing one of a kind quilts. Also, many suggestions for expanding on the examples given. Try different impossible shapes. Change the size of the triangles. Add unique borders.

I bought this book because the first one showed the cubes in a lot of the quilts but there was nothing on how to make them. That was disappointing!The one thing I wish for this one is that there was graph paper included that could be pulled out and copied. I needed to draw out what I wanted so that I could get everything in perspective. I found some on the internet that I printed but I still needed to outline the hexagons and before I drew in the other shapes. Although I have the hexagon blocks (half-hexi's in pairs) made from three different fabrics, everything is still on the drawing board. My lack of a large design wall (or any place to put one) holds me back.

This is a great book! I checked out all 3 books and found this one to be the best for me. Book one has the basics and is great for a beginner and book 3 is very artistic, book 2 had all the techniques of book 3 just a little more subdued for my taste. The pictures are encouraging and the directions are easy to understand. I can not wait to get started since I now have my fabric and the book helps with that too!

One block Wonders Volumes 1, 2 and 3 are well written and can make you look like the quilt artist you have only dreamt of becoming. Warning - this is a very addictive technique. Once is never enough as each piece of fabric offers a whole new creation and by creating three dimensional blocks. Interestingly enough men prefer the geometry of these quilts. I've also used this technique adding hollow circles rather than cubes and voila a new look once again. This book is definitely on my "favourites" list.

Beautiful pictures, simple instructions. Love the designs and looking forward to working on my first quilt top! Wish I had known in advance that a 60 degree angle ruler would be necessary though!

A few year's ago I was in a 3D quilt class and loved it. Thought I would try this out as seemed easier to obtain materials for the illusion. It is fabulous, and certainly get the creative juices flowing. If, like me, you have a stash, this book means that you can use what you have for the projects. Taught me a lot about colour and blending. Definitely, worth having on the shelf if you want to have something to 'play' with.
