This is a nice light-weight gardening tool for one-handed use. The handle is plenty sturdy, and the cutting head is appropriately constructed so that it should last a lifetime. We live in the rocky mountains, and a one handed matock style tool is the only way to garden. I bought this to replace a similar tool that my wife and I have used for years, but the handle finally broke. This time, I bought a heavier version for myself and this lighter duty tool for my wife to use. I think it will be perfect for digging planting holes and weeding , and is light enough for my wife to use. I will use the heavier one, so I won't be tempted to use this one for heavier projects and break the handle. The key benefit of this type tool is that the weight of the swinging head will cut through tough soil and roots, and dislodge rocks without needing the strength it would take to do that with a spade or shovel.

I bought it to help my 70 year old mom to remove some old roots from her garden. She ended up keeping it and using it daily in her garden. She loves how it's very sturdy but very light and easy to maneuver. She has arthritis and joint problems but loves gardening. And it's very rare she loves anything I buy and great to see her use it daily to plant things out remove weeds etc with this.

Handle was cracked

As a new gardener I didn’t know what to do to break up the hard earth. I bought this pickax because it was already one piece and I didn’t have to put it together. This morning I used it in the garden and it broke through the hard earth and roots with no problem. Just what I needed! I would recommend it to anyone.

Tried the tool upon receiving it by digging on medium soft soil. The handle split and broke after a couple of strokes. Returning it is not worth the trouble, so I may replace the handle with a proper one when I have time.

This is THE best gardening tool I have used in a very long time! It rips up Bermuda grass roots super easily. I’m finding it more useful than a shovel for digging holes in hard ground - it loosens the ground up so the shovel doesn’t have to work. I’m using it every day.

Tool is LIGHT which isn't bad and worked as expected. The item received looks different than the picture, specifically the paper thin "added rubber grip" , which peeled off on the 1st use. Total junk. Sad!

Works great and cheaper that the all metal ones and works just as good. Great balance and easy to swing, producing a veey powerful strike to break through tough turf or thick roots. Great all around tool for weeding, planting, turning mulch and hacking through tough weeds and roots
