Toyota Tacoma Bed Security Lockbox

This lockbox is great! It was a bit difficult to install. I had to file the opening in the sidewall a bit to get it in. But once installed it was very secure. I have a bed cover, so it is not normally visible to others, and it gives me a very useful secure place to store things I don't want growing legs while I'm away from the truck. It is bigger than I had imagined due to the depth of the box and I use it to store ratchet straps and other items every day. But when you want to leave your wallet or other valuables in your pickup while you go for a hike or a swim this can't be beat.

I really liked the concept of this product and wanted something better for my 2017 Tacoma.Removal of the existing plastic box was very straightforward and easy.Installation of the new box had a few minor issues, but overall went relatively easy.1 - The new box did have to be forced in a little. But, the plastic sidewall flexed fine and it went in.2 - Installing the middle screw with the lid is down and at 90 degrees was more of a challenge. You can't get s screwdriver to it, and I had to use an adjustable wrench to turn it by the screw head. Not the tightest screw, but the 5 others will more than hold it.We'll now see how it holds up over time.

I’ve hesitated to buy this based on negative reviews for a while now. I’ve had tuffy consoles and lock boxes and hadn’t had issues. However, this is a strange design and far to expensive for the major flaw it has. It’s surprising to me that they designed and have left it this way. This issue is with how the door/closure/and seal is designed. The gap is huge, and depends on weather stripping to keep out water. I will be creating a better internal seal by welding in some 1/4-3/4 strap to direct water away from the internal box. I don’t know know they didn’t do this, or why the outer door frame didn’t have some sort of larger lip that the door closed into for water deflection. Honestly, I like these guys, but this current design should not cost this much when the box will get water into it. I’ll be putting a drain hole in with a rubber grommet elbow to let water out but now in. The other comment made somewhere online was about paying the price but still having to coat the outer box that was made to be on the inside of the fender with rubberized coating to protect their powder coat. If they know it’s a problem it should come that way. So, steel is nice. Size of good. But not a well designed and finished product. For anyone storing any valuable and not wanting it to get rusty from the water that will get in, be cautious and ready to do a little fabricating. I was hoping to see other fabricators address this and make a similar model with more attention to detail. The Tacoma world would appreciate it and purchase I’m sure. Hope this helps.

Easy to install and adds a deterrent where you can store stuff like tie downs, ratchet straps, bungee cords, etc. The bottom three bolts are a bit difficult to tighten down, ensure you start them by hand. I recommend a little bit of loctite.

I love this box. It was bent on delivery but fixed that. It fits in the holes where the other box was. Has enough storage to put straps and tools. I recommend this to ever who has a Tacoma.

This could easily be an awesome 5-star product, but for some reason tuffy chose to leave the sides exposed an are extremely vulnerable to being pried apart. For a $200 item it is a rip off, had they put a metal lip on the sides like the top and bottom have, it would be a 4 or 5 star product

This security box is a must have for any Toyota Tacoma that has the bed side compartments. The install was a little tight but once you pop it in and bolt into place this thing is great. Who doesn't like extra storage and security.
