A classic iconic practical hand knitting expert.
You have to get your brain in sync with the author. She describes her patterns in an entirely different way than current designers. It's because the current standards were still being developed.

A bit of a let down
I bought this because EZ is the knit guru but there’s not much useful in it. Nice to have I guess.

Older Book and Older Patterns
While Elizabeth Zimmerman is an icon in the knitting world, this book of her older articles and patterns was disappointing. There was nothing in the patterns that interested me. Perhaps I did not read the description closely enough. For $30.00, the cost seemed excessive. I returned the book.

A classic from the queen
What else can I say? So much knowledge so clearly presented. Elizabeth Zimmerman died in 1999, but her techniques and patterns still live on. I think, as with any of her other books, the amount of knowledge and common sense still guide me.

Love this book
This is a later Elizabeth Zimmerman book that incorporates some changes to patterns originally published earlier and has some new ones.Of note, it contains the adult version of the Surprise Jacket with the formulas enabling it to be knitted to any size in any weight yarn. There are helpful comments on some other patterns.Elizabeth always knitted in wool and was in the habit of using severe decreases and then blocking the garment to shape with a touch of a steam iron. This will not work with synthetics. So I was happy to see comments on the yoke sweater as to how to use more frequent, less severe decrease rounds. There are also large, colour photos of most of the patterns which will appeal to the modern reader. The EZ collector will find some repetition -- the BSJ, Tomten jacket etc.Be forwarned, though -- if you are a knitter who prefers line by line patterns, you will not like EZ's approach. If, however, you are more of a designer and/or you want independence from detailed patterns, then EZ is for you.

A 'must have' for every dedicated and creative knitter.
I ordered this book not knowing anything about Elizabeth Zimmermann and how she has revolutionised knitting in the US. I really wanted it for one of her patterns, the baby surprise jacket. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it not only tells of her life, an interesting one by all accounts, but has many of her original designs. Also, it gives the knitter a formula for calculating the number of stitches and size of needles that even I can understand and use to create jumpers in whatever yarn You choose. The book was quite pricey however it is a useful addition to my collection of knitting books of which many just give patterns. She talks you through the work in a friendly, chatty style that makes you think that your mother is right by your side giving advice. It may be an old book but it's still very usable and helpful today.

The opinionated knitter
It was worth every penny, even though it was the most expensive book I have ever brought.Zimmerman makes you think what have I been doing all these years. Her way is so effective and simple. The tomten jacket is the nicest quickest and easiest thing I have ever made. The BSJ is now on the needles and I just love it. These two jackets alone have so many variations that from just these 2 patterns alone hundreds of different jackets can be made and no 2 alike. This book is an absolute must.

Not the most inspiring book in my knitting collection
This is the bible for serious knitters, but I haven't managed to get into it yet. I think she inspires people to be adventurous, but I'm not finding that inspiration as yet.

EZ: The Opinionated Knitter
This book is wonderful as an insight into a knitting legend; you can almost feel EZ's encouragement from the pages, and feel that you have gotten to know her through the pages of her personal notes. Patterns will be referred to as and when, I am sure. Absolutely lovely. The book arrived in the advertised condition, well before estimated date of arrival. Would recommend seller and author wholeheartedly.

What a wonderful book by a wonderful writer
What a wonderful book by a wonderful writer. Her patterns are idiosyncratic, and may not suit a novice knitter, but her style is such that you cannot help but learn something, no matter how experienced a knitter you are.
