Wow! should title the book 2000 good ideas.
Pros: great detail, breadth of specific information, encouraging, humor, practical, realistic expectations for success (very difficult), short with feature ready to go, didn’t mail this inCons: dated now (2022-DVDs?), some repetition on small number of topics, understating difficulty of breaking through to agents and producers.Have completed 3 feature crime dramas, two short documentaries screened internationally. I am motivated to write, direct, and produce my first short film. Really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it.Dave GoudgeDAG Film Productions

Good Overview Book about Indie Films
This book will give you a good introduction into how to organize your thoughts in making a short film. A lot of stuff would be better off seen as a video tutorial, but it's still good to have it in a book form. Organized and easily accessible. This is a great into book.

Great book for amateur ultra-low budget, student, and teen filmmakers!
I teach film and video for high school students and am always looking for great ideas to teach that don't cost an arm and a leg. Not only are there a ton of really good ideas in this book, but the "looks" they give now allow their short films to be entered and compete into short film festivals that will match the competition. My students really like the writing style in the book--the pace is fast and entertaining. Like most independent filmmakers, I don't have a lot of money for my projects, and a minimal amount for my students (fundraising budget), and now this book helps even the playing field.

This book is highly recommended for those who want to get into filmmaking and/or want to know step by step what goes into creating a short film. With Rickey Bird's years of cinematic experience you are in good hands as he guides you through the entire process of creating a short film at a modest budget. Thank you Rickey for sharing your knowledge and love for film with the world. Stay Hectic!!

A quick and easy read FULL of great content; It will pay for itself immediately.
This is an excellent and worthy guide to getting started on a shoestring budget. There were a number of tips and recommendations that I have have made myself and quite a few that I learned and will now incorporate. It is worth the cover price for the organizational tips alone. Whether you are going to film festivals, shooting for YouTube, or trying to up your game with fun family/friend videos, this is a great book and required reading.

A good pep talk for the novice filmmaker, but not a great "how-to" resource.
I think this book might have made a better impact if I hadn't already written, produced, and directed a short film. I look books on filmmaking with examples, images, illustrations, or realistic practices with "weight" and this was mostly a "checklist" of things to remember and even with that it was a "glossed" over. More of a "cheerleader" book for those getting started but nothing with "weight". If you want a good book, check out Producer to Producer by Maureen Ryan.

Remove “tricks.” And that’s the original title.
This has a misleading title in a way, it’s my fault for thinking it has tips and tricks to make certain creative camera techniques but it’s just your basic indie film maker guide book that talks about his cousin Larry numerous times.Good book if you have never read a film making book.

GREAT BOOK FOR FIRST TIME INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS
It is a truthful attempt to tell the aspiring filmmakers what and how to do with regard to a short film project. It is humorous and reader-frienly. As a screenwriter I gained great insights into the craft of making films on a budget. The crisp information about visual and sound SFX and participation in Film Festivals is also very helpful. On the whole - a great book indeed!

Average
It is an average book on how to make a cheap short film. Easy to read, mild in information. Not bad.
