Top Notch
Gives you a perspective on how men in position of power think and act just like a regular guy. How complex is a situation and how simplistic is the view we have about it comes out very clearly.

It is more a historically accurate novel than history
Written in a style similar to the famous Freedom At Midnight the book is a very engaging read, though it certainly in not in the same league. The cast of characters is smaller and they are developed in less depth. It is a story of a few ordinary people in the midst of extraordinary events. Those who like serious stuff will enjoy it, though it is a bit lighter.Do not quote it though - it is decidedly NOT history. The overall story is more or less accurate, but events have been glossed over and given it's narrative nature, several inaccuracies exist (there are reviews in many magazines that point out a few, and some are glaringly obvious to those who have read about the events in some detail in real history books) which the authors not only admit but rather give a fair warning about right in the beginning. It should be used as a first read to inform one of the overall thrust of events before diving into details through other sources

Very good book on creation of Bangladesh
SirI thank Mr Scott Carney and Jason Miklian for writing Vortex - a well researched book on Vortex and creation of Bangladesh. There are many books on the subject by Indian and Pakistani writers, but this book is unique in a sense that it has dealt with the Vortex in which about 500000 five lac people died in East Pakistan. This is well researched book by two foreign writers.Actually the Vortex of East Pakistan was the main cause of unrest in East Pakistan along with denial of power sharing with Muzibur Rehman. The main villian in this drama was Mr Julfikar Ali Bhutto. Mr Bhutto was traitor who stabed in back for his own personal interest and ambition. He betrayed General Mohammad Ayub Khan, General Mohammad Yahya Khan, and Shaikh Mujibur Rahman. He was a megalomaniac bordering to lunatic. He was rightly hanged by General Mohammad Zia Ul Haq. He has all the vices like heavy drunkard, womaniser and not loyal to anyone. God gave him just punishment for his misdeeds. He was also involved in the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.Mr Yahya Khan was a military man and politician,Mr Bhutto misguided him, incited him and misled him. Mr Yahya Khan was having personal defects and this fellow fully exploited them for his own interest. He at last betrayed by putting his in house arrest. He deceived him at eleventh hour and directed PTV to malign General Mohammad Yahya Khan. This is well evident from the last affidavit of General Mohammad Yahya Khan. The book is well researched and the English is very good. There is no mistake of fact and print. This has amply brought to the public knowledge that this war was on the brink of third world war culminating to nuclear war with the madness of duel Mr Richard Nixon and his secretary of state Dr Henry Kissinger." The Soviet naval commander in chief ordered Rear Admiral Kruglyakov to stop the Enterprise from advancing, by any means necessary. The American Seventh Fleet must not come within striking distance of India ' s military bases."The book further informs " The commander ' s orders mandated him to launch his arsenal if the unstoppable Enterprise sailed too close to an arbitrary line off the Indian coast."India established first time in history to be Regional Power and it totally failed American diplomacy, hipocracry and it's coercion over India. Soviet union helped India and due to this India was able to dismember Pakistan and create Bangladesh a independent nation. The book is very informative and very interesting. The price is very reasonable. The printing and paper is good. I very strongly recommend this book for the general readers and others who are interested in Pakistan. The Pakistani readers should also take interest in it to know the truth.

Didn’t know this was TRUE
This book is absolutely un-putdownable (if there’s such a word). The story is so raw, real and hits home the reality that East Pakistan independence happened just a generation ago! Our fathers would’ve likely experienced these events and yet we know so little!!I was sitting with Google Maps on the whole time, the The accounts written a in Vortex are a 100% true, don’t miss this story

Good Read but Terrible proofing
I had chanced in this book when the authors were interviewed by an Indian YouTube channel. The host had lots of good things to say about the book. Needing a non-military and non-subcontinent view, I bought into the hype. The book was very approachable and promising with the focus being on the storytelling than just the statement of facts. To that extent, this book is highly recommended and a great gateway to understand the birth of Bangladesh. Unfortunately, the good ends there. The authors thank multiple people for editing and proofing this book. But that is a joke. There have been fundamental errors with the dates as well as titles of people. It wouldn't have been half as shocking, if they had just been related to those from unfamiliar ontry or group. But to call Henry Kissinger, the secretary of state repeatedly shows the negligence of the authors and the editors. Further the assassination of bangabandhu happened in 1975 and not in 1972 as stated in the afterword. Finally, the authors couldn't make up their mind whether they wanted to bring notice to humanity lost due to the genocide or to make it about the climate change. The book reads like the authors had an one-line idea about linking the genocide to the cyclone in order to hype up the story and had to write a page in the afterword to justify it.Despite all these shortcomings, would highly recommend this book as an easy primer. Then please go into Wikimedia or any other book to correct all the mistakes and gaps in understanding.

Wow read it for the history or for the Bond style action
Truth is better than fiction. For anyone going “hmm no interest in Pakistan in the 60s-70s” think: do I like James Bond villains or WW2 movies. You’ll love this.

Excellent History
A wonderful documentation of the connection between an act of nature and geopolitical turmoil.

Amazing piece of history! Very thoughtfully written! Riveting! Page Turner!
I loved this book! I could not put it down, which is not typical of most books as historically dense as this one.The authors write the amazing, thoroughly investigated history of the Bhola Cyclone and the war between East and West Pakistan that followed in a way that reads more like a fast paced action packed war/crime novel than a historical work.(Think the hunt for red October meets the Pakistan Wikipedia page)The relevance and relation to this event that happened 40+ years ago is ever present and paints a great picture of the way media can play such a huge role global conflicts as well as a stark warning about the importance of climate science and its role in politics and global policy. This event happened before I was born and I knew only small bits and pieces of what happened and this book did a great job pulling me into the front lines of a major historical event, introduced all the players in a way that made me feel like I KNEW them intimately and filled the gaps in my knowledge of the event brilliantly. So well researched! So well written! This should be required reading in High School Social Studies, History, and Government/Economics!
