My husband and I are avid runners. My husband sweats. A LOT. More than a normal runner. His workout clothes were all quite stinky, as were mine, but his were the worst. What made them particularly bad is that he would ball them up after a workout and leave them until laundry day. They were terrible. I have been trying for years to de-funk our (most HIS) workout clothes. I've tried ammonia, baking soda, the "sports" Tide, you name it. Nothing worked. They smelled fine out of the dryer and would start to stink again as soon as he started sweating. People couldn't stand to be around him during a run because he smelled so bad. We used to joke that he was going to win races because all of the people around him would suffocate from his funky shirts.I bought SportSuds as a last resort, after reading another review. I carefully followed the directions about cleaning the washer first. I followed the seller directions and ran a load of old towels through. Then I ran an empty load using the SportSuds so that my washer would really be clean. I washed a load of my husband's nasty workout clothes in hot water. Then I washed them a second time (using SportSuds both times) just to be sure. I dried them using our regular fabric softener. They came out smelling clean, but I wasn't sure how they would be once he started sweating. I was the first to go for a run with the newly cleaned clothes. My workout shirts did not have any smell in them at all, even though I was completely drenched in sweat. My husband was the real test, though. He went for a run later that night and I made him wear the shirt that has historically been the stinkiest. It did not smell ONE BIT when he came back from his run! Yay!!!!This stuff really works. It is a little pricey, but well worth it. Not only did it completely take the smell out of our clothes, it also made our clothes wick away sweat like they were made to do (they had somehow lost that ability over time). I also was happy to find that SportSuds took the stink out of some of the stinky towels that we had, too, as well as a couple of work shirts that I had that had stinky pits! I highly recommend SportSuds and I will continue to use it to keep the funk away!!

I love my technical clothes b/c they do a great job wicking away sweat as I run. I workout 6 days a week and need shirts that dont stick to me when I sweat. I will say that I have good hygiene and luckily for me, do not have BO when I sweat. I would stick with cotton shirts all day long if they just didnt stick to me as if I was wearing a wet towel when working out.The problem with the tech fabrics is that they all have a chemical smell of some sort even when brand new. If you dont take proper care of them after working out, they will smell really bad.However, nothing that I've tried can get rid of the chemical smell of the tech fabrics as they heat up when working out?Initially, I purchased sports suds b/c of the bad bacterial smell from improper cleaning/care. Sportsuds did the trick and the clothes had no bad smell. However, when working out and breaking a sweat, the clothes emit a terrible strong chemical smell that doesnt go away until the shirt is completely soaked in sweat. It's very weird but the initial rise in body temperature to the point of sweating triggers a very strong metallic smell from the tech fabrics. Im not sure if it's due to the detergent but I havent been able to figure that out.I've used sports suds to bring back a few shirts from the dead that I simply did not take good care of in the past (threw them in the hamper and let them sit for a week before doing a load of laundry) and those retained a terrible bacterial smell no matter how many washes in regular detergent. Sports suds got rid of the bacterial fungus smell but brought out a different chemical smell.

I was at the point of nearly throwing away all my husbands compression shorts and buying new. No matter what I used to wash them, once he started working out again they started to smell...less than fresh. I tried the Tide Sport Wash with Febreze, which didn't seem to do anything other than mask any scent with a strong, headache causing perfume. On the verge of giving up, I came across this product and figured I would give it a try.First off, READ THE DIRECTIONS. Using this detergent defunked probably 20 years of buildup from the washer left in my home by the previous owner. You do NOT want that all over your clothes. I followed the directions and let the washer cycle through twice with old towels, before washing our gym clothes. It took some soaking but it is AMAZING how well this works. No smell whatsoever, no weird perfume and no sweat! And I hadn't even realized that my dri-fit shirts were no longer wicking away sweat like they should until cleaning with this.I'm now washing my sheets and towels with this too. Everything gets so clean and fresh after.For those that say it's expensive, please pay attention to how many washes you get out of a jar. I can honestly say that you never need more than a tablespoon of this detergent for a full washer load, and it really does stretch to 30 washes even though the jar is small. Is it a little more expensive than Tide with Febreze? Yes. Trust me, it is well worth it. Small price to pay for giving your gym clothes a longer life.

I wanted to make sure I used it all before I wrote a review.This is NOT for deep, ground in odors; you know, the kind when you wash it, the smell just will not come out.I bought this in hopes of saving some shirts with pit smell, but it didn't work. No matter how many scoops, soaking, vineager, sunlight I used, the sweaty smell just came back.It did seem to clear out dirt pretty well. No strong fragrance from the product itself. Low suds, too, if you're looking for that.

Love this stuff for stinky hockey gear, especially the gloves. Put a small amount in the glove & I wash them in a front facing washer and they come out not smelly.

Good detergent, but fairly pricey. Did not totally remove odors from a couple of synthetic workout shirts which I was hoping this product would do. Nothing else has worked though so I'm not surprised.

this is second time buying this product. it seems to work very well in getting rid of gym clothe odour.
