Buy Standard Galvanized Post Cap 2x4 (1-1/2" x 3-1/2") - 2 Pack: Everything Else - desertcart.com ✓ FREE DELIVERY possible on eligible purchases Review: Perfection at its best - Wasn't sure how these were going to look but dam was i surprised when I opened the package and did a test fit.🤗🤗🤗 Totally impressed with the fit and quality. Primed and painted and installed they look great. Only issue is shipping was a bit long Alex Review: Worked like a charm! - I rebuilt the staircase of my deck and needed something to act like a post cap for the 2×4 end posts. After searching all the home centers and hardware stores in my area, I found these simple beauties. When they arrived - earlier than expected - I dry fit them to the very edges of the posts; they just made it over the wood. Yea! I did not want silver so spray painted them with 2 coats of an exterior Bronze color. Once dry, I used a rubber mallet with a leather work glove between it and each topper to pound them into place. Snug fit, no adhesive needed. Images are from left side and right side view of the stairs. I'm very pleased with the look and the fit of these post caps. Highly recommend. Notes: - The edges can be a tad rough in spots. I used a rock from my yard to smooth where needed on one cap. The other was fine as received. - If your posts are slightly larger than the caps, used a wood file/sander/sand paper to trim down the wood edges a little. You just need edge clearance to attach the caps, the rubber mallet will do the rest.

It works
It seems strong enough to last for a long time. It rained a lot for a while, but I didn't see any rust yet. Only negative aspect of this cap is a bit loose for 2×4 post. Now it just sits on top of the post, therefore I think I need to glue it to secure it.

Best way to weatherize a 2’ x 4”, but very tight
Products looks like good quality, but slightly too small and I had to trim the 2x4 end a bit and pound this on with a mallet. At least it will probably never come off now, but if it had been a bit larger, I probably would have just sealed it on with silicone or similar.

Fit was excellent
This product is very straightforward, no moving parts...they are galvanized caps that go on dimensional 2x4s. They work perfectly. Secure them with industrial-strength / construction adhesive.

An exception
I assumed that this cap would fit right over the ends of the nominal 2x4s that I'm using, but nope! The outside of the wood is the exact same measure as the outside of the cap, so it sits on top of the wood perfectly, but the wood cannot be inserted. I guess that I'm the rare guy who got my money's worth with the lumber. Now I have to decide whether to shave down the ends of all of my 2x4s (which I have absolutely no desire to attempt) or come up with a plan B. These caps seemed perfect - until they weren't! Just make sure that your 2x4s are smaller than these caps. Otherwise, they seemed great for my purpose.

Heavy, solid, nice.....but pricy.
A little less 'deep' than I anticipated but they are very nice and serve the purpose. Very pricey though.

Great toppers for a 2x4 to keep off rain and add sturdiness
You'll likely need to sand or rasp off a little of the end of the 2x4 lumber (depending on its exact dimensions) but these little caps go on nicely and stay on. Use a rubber mallet to pound them flush so you don't marr the finish.
