Probably designed for Scuba Divers, not snorkelers
The scupper valve works great. If it is completely filled with water a moderate blow will expel water from the top and bottom of the snorkel. With more water inside the tube, it clears easier because of the siphoning action. When a small amount of water enters, it may require 3 blows to get out. The wave guard works good too. In moderately choppy waters, none entered the vent. The ventilation was good too as the bore is wide enough to allow heavy breathing. The snorkel keeper rotates and move up and down. It fits a bit slack on my 'Cressi big eyes evolution crystal' mask, because the straps are not wide enough. The snorkel is also heavy compared to my cressi corsica. I primarily Snorkel/Freedive in 80/20 % of the time in tropical waters. This snorkel has a flexible tube with no J type support. My mouth was getting tired and my teeth hurt from biting hard to keep the snorkel in my mouth, as I had to support the weight of the bottom part of the mouthpiece. I could snorkel for over 3 hrs. straight with the cressi corsica with no mouth fatigue. Not a bad snorkel, but for the price, it is the most expensive piece of plastic that I own. This snorkel was designed for scuba divers who need to save oxygen while getting out or back to the boat. The flexible mouthpiece tube was also made to swing away from the mouth and thus accomodate the regulator. It was not designed for snorkelers who require a snorkel with a J support for prolonged use. I would order the Cressi corsica or the Riffe J snorkel next time.Well after almost a year I have gotten used to the snorkel. The scupper valves works great without a hitch. I get no saltwater taste in my mouth as with other snorkels.

Atomic SV2 Snorkel
My SCUBA ratings are Divemaster, Master Diver and Nitrox with over 700+ dives, so I seen a lot of gear over the years. I been diving since 1973 and in the past several years I have been buying more and more Atomic gear either as a replacement or upgrade to current item, mostly at SCUBAPro's expense. I find Atomic equipment VERY well made, easy to service and just lasts. The other brands are all trying to cut corners in quality and have some weird policies for repair and replacement. That's why I don't buy SCUBAPro gear, stuff that is under warranty and clearly has to be repaired by them and not the dive shop has to been taken to the dive shop for them to return. I'm old enough to UPS the stuff myself and save the time and the dive shop the trouble. So if you are looking for some great dive gear take a look at Atomic. I don't use or carry a snorkel much based on the type of diving I do, but we were going on a family vacation in the Keys last year and my old snorkel (guess the brand) broke right at the mouth piece. So I looked at a couple of dozen different snorkels and decided that since all my other Atomic gear was working so well, this was the tied breaker for me. I used it without a problem, so did the grandson. If you snorkel all the time or free dive, there maybe a reason you want a different model or brand, but for everyday use you can't go wrong with the Atomic SV2 model.

Works great.
I was using a dry snorkel before trying this semi dry. I didn't love the closing off of a dry when in rougher water. I found this to be very effective at keeping water out even during rough water snorkeling. the design of the snorkel is phenomenal. Clearing it is very easy if you do get a little in it. If you're looking for a semi dry that works almost as good as a dry, give this one a shot. Atomic makes a great product.

Good for Divers, Snorkelers can save money by looking elsewhere
This is probably a good snorkel for scuba divers who will be breathing through a regulator and just using a snorkel, occasionally, at the surface for short surface swims.Unfortunately, I bought it for snorkeling, where a cheap long tube with a fixed mouthpiece seems like it would've worked just as well if not better.I've noticed that the bend at the top of the Atomic SV2, that wraps behind your head, brings the top of the tube too close to the water's surface. Water keeps getting in through the top, and though it's designed to just pass through the purge valve at the bottom, it frequently doesn't. That water often ends up in my mouth while breathing. On the plus side, the snorkel does appear to be very sturdy and made of quality materials. The mouthpiece even though it's attached to a flexible (not fixed) hose is quite comfortable -- at least for me.I just keep thinking I could have saved a lot of money by buying a cheap, straight, long, old-fashioned snorkel with a rigid mouthpiece (something designed to keep the snorkel's top well above the water's surface). This probably would have worked just as well, if not better, for my purpose -- long hours in the ocean snorkeling.

If James Bond used a Snorkel Diving,, it would be the Atomic Aquatics SV2 Flex Dive Snorkel!
Atomic Aquatics' SV2 Flex Dive Snorkel is the best you can get in quality and performance. Easy to clear and difficult to flood even in the roughest oceans. I've used mine in the open Pacific at Wolf & Darwin Islands, Galapagos, where you need a snorkel when scuba diving for safety at the surface. Often, the currents and wave action are severe and the panga may not arrive to pick you up after a dive is completed for some time. This snorkel resists getting water splashes through the top as well as requiring little effort to clear. Of course, if your just looking for a snorkel to enjoy on vacation, there are cheaper alternatives. But, if quality and performance matter to you, Atomic Aquatics makes some of the best diver gear around and this snorkel is no exception.
