Q: Can anyone who has tried confirm that this is more comfortable than a pool noodle cut to fit, or is it basically the same material?

I haven't tried a pool "noodle", but from what I can recall about them, this product would have the same or a bit softer cushion. It keeps my bare/socked feet from suffering the pressure of being on that small steel bar. It is not as wide as the bar, so can slide left-to-right a bit. The only negative is that eventually it will rotate until the split part is on top, lines up with the steel bar, and pushes down until you have no cushion under your feet. You must the manipulate it to get the cushion on top of the bar. More of an occasional annoyance than a real problem. One aspect that I did not consider, is that this product prevents the chair from completely lowering, by an inch or more. That may matter to some, since it means that the back is never completely raised. Again, just an annoyance.
