IRWIN Marples Forstner Bit Set, Wood Drill Bits, Made of Carbon Steel, Ideal for Fine Woodworking, Cabinet-making and more, 14 Pieces (1966893)

The price point for this set is extremely reasonable for the quality and selections of bits. I just completed a fairly large project which required numerous holes of various sizes in 3/4" and 1/2" plywood. Each bit performed well - they are all well balanced, cut cleanly, and are still sharp. This is a great set!

Arrived on time, as advertised, just what I needed in my wood working shop.

First the good:Good variety of sizes in a nice box. Overall reasonably well made. For the price I paid, it was an excellent buy.Now the low points:As a former QA in metalworking factory, I can say this is not a top quality product. Not too much work to touch these up with a file to remove many burrs on the cutting edges see two pictures that show burrs from, possibly, too aggressive grinding of the cutting edge.Other pictures show bright areas where I filed the saw edge. It looked to me that the bit was bumped around, like having a bunch of bits riding in a basket between stations during manufacturing, without properly separating them. As a result, the tip of the saw edge was deformed and no longer ended in a sharp point.Once again, it will take only few minutes to remove burrs and blunt edges as all defects are microscopic. Once it is done, the bit cuts very well.

I've used them several times. Good cut quality and seem to hold their edge well. Good variety of sizes and value for the money.

A wide variety of sharp and accurately sized Forstner drill bits. They all fit 1/4 inch drill chucks and work well with DeWalt cordless drills.It might be overkill and you can buy smaller sets, but this set covers most of the sizes and when you need that one specific size, this can't be beat

These are good, solid bits. They take a little getting used to, like any Forstner bit, but that's not specific to these ones. Until you're comfortable with them, its easy to make them hang up in the hole. But again, that's how Forstners work.

This set really stays sharp and cut good holes.
