My first taste of one of the best comics ever.
This collection has stories from the first 4 issues I got. These tales come from a period when the comic was really starting to grow legs. Hope you have Sonic Archives 8-11, because these stories are best read alongside them.We start off with the Chaotix special, which has three stories. The first (The Chaos Effect) shows how Knuckles met Espio, Vector and the others. The second one (Tag, You're It!) is a fun little piece, but the weakest of the 3. The last story (The Hunt Is On!) ends on a cliffhanger that continues in issue #31 of the main series and is resolved in the 9th volume I think (I don't have that one yet). We then see Super Sonic VS. Hyper Knuckles in "Crash of the Titans". Despite some odd moments like in the early stories (they break the fourth wall twice) this is a great story. Also great is Fathers and Sons, a story about Knuckles remembering his father while searching for the Chaotix. We then come to my favorite part of this collection, Mecha Madness. This was the first issue I ever bought. I'll never forget the wonderful day I discovered it. I was wondering the aisles of Toys R' Us when I spotted it. The cover instantly grabbed my attention. It's definitely one of the top best 10 covers out of the whole series in my opinion. It had Sonic, the Freedom Fighters, and a new character I was very curious about, Knuckles. So naturally I picked it up and was very excited to see more of one of my favorite cartoons of all time. Even if you don't have Archives Volume 10 (if you do, read this between issues 39 and 40), the recap makes the story easy to get into. It's an excellent story, with superb artwork by Spaz. It definitely made a fan out of me. Almost as good is the Chaotix back-up story "Don't Let the Island Hit You on the Way Down". Admittedly, I didn't love it at first because I had no idea who they were, but I still liked it and it only got better after I read the Chaotix special. It's a very good spotlight for them, and happens to introduce the A-list Sonic villain Mammoth Mogul. And now I must cover my only criticism with this collection. Where's the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters story? That was the last story in the original printing of Mecha Madness, and while it was the weakest of the 3 stories it was still good. Would it have killed them to add 5 more pages to the collection? At least they make up for it with the second chapter of Knuckles Quest, from the Sonic Live special. While I had that issue and liked it as a kid, I now realize that the main story is terrible; but the other 2 were good, especially the Knuckles one. Continuing from where we left off in Sonic #42, Knuckles continues his mission to find the Sword of Acorns. Overall this is an excellent collection. Fans of Sonic are encouraged to pick this and the other Sonic Selects and Archives up. They represent the best adaption of the character; for the most part.

So wonderful i just about cried
I was 8 when i ordered most of the special issues in this book through the mail from one of the forms at the back of one of my comics. Unfortunately, I never got to read them because the mail sent them to the wrong person so i never got a chance to read these stories i wanted so bad. This book is immaculate. I could not stop smiling when i finally got this. Really glad that archie comics decided to re release these issues in cool book format. The art and colors are straight 90's.

My Grandson Loves Reading This!
My grandson loves video games and does not yet love books, but he loves the Sonic Select books we've given him. He's always reading and discussing the books, even more than the DVDs, X-Box, Nintendo DS games. And this is good because he loves to read these books.
