Just Okay
It isn't Dracula by any means, but it's well written. Overall, barely recommendable.

I am excited to read this book
I enjoy books that contain aspects of Ancient Egypt. This is a book written in 1903 by Bram Stoker--YES, that Bram Stoker that wrote Dracula. With all of that, I am excited to see how this story unfolds, and what Stoker considered to be the aspects of Ancient Egypt when he wrote this. I also believe it will be a fascinating book because of the author.

Another Great from Bram Stoker
If you've read Dracula, you will certainly like this book as well. In fact, the action moves more quickly, and the prose is less dense than Dracula. I highly recommend reading straight through, and skipping past the revised ending onto the original ending. After I'd finished the book in its original state, I went back to read the revised ending, and that worked well.I won't spoil the ending or story, but it is certainly a chilling tale with an excellent first person narrator who you come to love. Do note: Dracula was written in epistolary format, as a series of letters and diaries, while the Jewel of Seven Stars is first person. That makes it much more readable in my opinion. The original ending was a shock!

Total disappointment after reading Dracula
I bought this novel because I enjoyed Dracula so much, but The Jewel of Seven Stars feels like it is written by another writer entirely. Instead of the gripping tension-building and vivid descriptions in the vampire novel, this mummy book contains a great deal of telling rather than showing, the characters are not as interesting and both the original and the alternate ending are underwhelming. For truly well-written horror, read Dracula, or give my own vampire novel, Sin Made Flesh a try - tell me if it isn't better than The Jewel of Seven Stars.

Not for the first time
In 1996 ,Oxford University Press published in its OXFORD POPULAR FICTION series,Bram Stoker's THE JEWEL OF SEVEN STARS ( a paperback edition with cover illustration by Paul Slater).A good edition with an enlightening introduction by David Glover( at the time,Lecturer in English at the University of Southampton), author of a wonderful book,"Vampires,Mummies and Liberals:Bram Stoker and the Politics of Popular Fiction"(1996).Well,this Oxford University Press edition included both versions (the 1903 original version and the 1912 revision with the alternative ending as an appendix ).So,it is not true that this is "the most complete version ever published" of Bram Stoker's "Jewel of Seven Stars".

It all started in Egypt the land of mystery
An absolutely great story, extremely well written The story just takes you inside and let's you see what the characters see. I couldn't put it down. A+++++

You get both versions
Decent story... the best part is getting both the original version and the sanitized version for Victorian audiences.

INTERESTING TO READ THE ORIGINAL WITH BOTH ENDINGS
The Jewel Of Seven Stars - The Most Complete Version Ever PublishedBeing very interested in Egypt, this story has held some fascination. I have several film versions of the story but they don't really follow the original story.I did not know about the two endings and after reading both I can see why the publisher wanted a different ending but I found both the "acceptable" and the original one rather tame.Written in the early 1900's Bram Stoker clearly has some knowledge of Egyptian history and it would be totally wrong to view the story from a 2020's viewpoint so for the time it's an interesting story if a bit contrived in places.Note: the most recent film version is "The Awakening" starring Charlton Heston. That too deviates from the story but has a better ending.
