A young man's guide to becoming the type of guy that people respect and enjoy. 50 Things Every Young Gentleman Should Know is a young man’s guide to becoming the type of guy that people respect and enjoy. He knows how to shake hands. He knows how to be a good sport. He knows how to give a genuine compliment and how to speak his mind without being offensive. His friends listen to what he has to say, and he returns the favor. He knows how to achieve the perfect knot in a necktie and, more important, he knows when he should be wearing a tie in the first place. Oh, and his favorite ball cap? He knows when to wear it and when to leave it at home on his dresser. Becoming a gentleman doesn’t happen in an instant; it’s a lifelong exercise in refining etiquette, social interaction, and personal discipline. It all begins here. In this book, you’ll learn how to gain trust and earn respect, understand how to do things the right way and why it’s important, and realize immediate payoffs for good behavior. Review: Clear, Practical Guide to Everyday Manners and Life Skills - This book offers clear, practical guidance aimed at helping young readers build confidence and good habits in everyday life. The advice is structured in short, easy-to-digest sections, which makes it approachable rather than overwhelming. Topics range from manners and communication to responsibility and personal presentation, with a tone that feels straightforward rather than preachy. A useful reference for foundational life skills and etiquette. Review: Quality and nicely written - The book arrived in pristine condition which i appreciate highly. It is geared more towards younger boys than I was hoping. More of middle school/young high school. Some design choices are odd and can break up the flow of the chapters but it reads well. There are plenty of examples, reads conversationally, and is accurate in all respects. For a beginner's guide, it does well. Though I do say it lacks compared to the female version (I bought and read both as it is wise to understand both sides in order to play your own part well). All in all, as a starter guide for the intended age group, it does very well. When I allocate more funds to my self-improvement budget, I will be researching the rest of their books for more advanced teachings.

So you have a Young Man....
This is a nice book for a young man to have on hand. It provides some good advice without being preachy. It's straight forward and easy to read format. It covers things such as: How to accept a compliment. How to give a compliment. Shaking someone's hand. How to introduce someone. There are things it doesn't cover, obviously. But it covers a lot and it's enough for a young man who might want to improve himself or is open to correction and willing to do things better. I would suggest that it's too basic for an 18 year old. I gave it to my fifteen year old with the thought that if he can drive, he can start to have some more manners (He's already a pretty good kid) and learn to behave more properly. Because it's not judgy or preachy I think he was willing to read it and found it useful.

Great book for basic manners!
I recommend this book for any young man that wants to be more of a gentleman. The authors have a very good sense of humor, and understand how we young men feel about things. Of course, like any book like this, it has a few weird/incorrect tips and situations that require a different response from everyone. For the low price, it's great!

Boundaries chapter: Just what we were looking for!
I'm an early 40's childless woman dating a recently divorced man with two teenagers. Shoot. Me. Now. I'll tell you if I acted the way his teenagers do, my parents would've knocked me into next week. There would be NO texting at the dinner table; NO sight of poor manners; and certainly NO entitled attitude in my childhood household. I'm bewildered that his kids act with such disrespect, because their father is such a sweet and kind man. His 14 year old son clearly has some discipline and boundary issues; especially issues with respecting privacy and knocking on doors. So, thank goodness there is a chapter in this book covering boundaries. John Bridges, thank you so much for this! I hope after his son reads this book, he will realize how his behavior reflects not only on him, but us as parental figures (wishful thinking). We know he's a smart kid; but I can't wait until his frontal lobe closes and maturity kicks in... Bless those of you with teenagers. I feel your pain. Great book!

Good read for pre-teen - good as a brush up
I bought this book for my ten year old. I feel like a broken record sometimes and I’m sure it gets old having every instance made into a lesson so I figured to give this book a try. The chapters are short but give the “Do’s and Don’ts” and some practical solutions to situations. It’s good to read one section at a time and then implement. Some of the sections are basic but good reminders and, like it said, it’s not just coming from “mom” anymore.

A gem!
I am so glad to have found this book. I have been reading a chapter every morning at breakfast with my 9 and 10 year old sons. The chapters are concise, very practical, and I find them very entertaining. It has sparked some valuable conversations with the boys, and I can somewhat limit my motherly nagging throughout the day to, "are you being gentlemanly?" When we finish reading it, we'll start it over again. These things can't be reiterated too many times!
