Heart of Darkness: A Norton Critical Edition (Norton Critical Editions)

Enthralling.I’ve never thought about a book as much as this one. The ideas in it, the feeling it gives you, and the atmosphere it just rolls out into your mind are so different.I can see why movies were inspired by this book.

A brilliant, enthralling masterpiece which can be read as an epic adventure or a psychological journey into the human interior, Heart of Darkness is a short novella brimming with brilliant ideas and memorable scenes and characters.

This edition of Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” is excellent. It contains not only the original text but collateral essays. It is researched far beyond any other edition and well worth paying for. It’s a collector’s item for serious readers.

Understanding the Old World helps you see clearly why, why everyhing.

This book was exactly what I expected. I really like the extra background information and critical essays. It's a perfect way to get some context on the story.

One of the best books of the 20c

Of course the novella is great, but I loved all the historical documentation and the criticism.

great Norton critical edition but this was so heavily marked up it drove me to distraction. First ‘acceptable’ used level book i’ve ever purchased that had this level of marking. Wont be buying that level again. I got what i paid for…. (not much)

The book is very interesting and it was worth the amount that I paid!

Heart of Darkness: 0 (Norton Critical Editions):This book is amazing! It has so much depth of content, hugely impressive.I would highly recommend getting this version over others if you are interested in getting the most comprehensive text. It goes into the history, the thinking of the times, and has a number of literay reveiws.If you are just after the story and are more of a casual reader this version will be overkill.

This is an academic text of the novel with essays on historical background and critical essays. The hard copy of the work that Norton produces is excellent. Unfortunately, the Kindle version is very amateurish. In the marketing it is claimed that the pages in the electrical version match the paperback: they don't. There are 72 pages for the novel itself in the kindle version and 77 pages in the paperback version.Further, that is the end of the page numbering in the Kindle version, it ends at page 73 - and the rest of the book is all page 73. Obviously this is not helpful, since the paperback has 478 pages!I give the book two stars just for the fact that a Kindle version exists, but really, Norton needs work on this and upgrade it so that the pages correspond effectively. I would like an upgrade as soon as possible.
