WD-40 Specialist Rust Remover Soak, One Gallon

I restore tools and use several methods and materials to remove or eliminate rust--recently I did a head to head comparison of the 1 gallon WD Rust Remover and their competitor Evaporust, also the gallon jug. I used identical pans (3 sizes for a total of 6), chose parts and tools with varying amounts of rust and selected the same number of each kind for each cleaner. In my opinion WD is not worth the extra $5.00 as Evaporust was hands down the faster, more efficient, and obviously more economical. WD never seemed to quite get up to speed nor finish the job. I am trying to "use it up" post test and I just took out some sockets that have been in it for a week and there is still active rust inside! I took them right over to the Evaporust and dropped them in. In a day or two they will be clean and ready to preserve. I just got a Delta grinder used and put all the hardware and small parts in Evaporust to take off some surface rust, it took off the bluing too. No problem for me as I will just reblue them, but it gets rid of ALL the rust. I still like WD 40 spray (I buy that in gallons) for preserving long term in containers, and their new silicone spray is my personal shop spray--that or a dry Teflon--and I have been trying their new de-greaser, which is good for light duty spray and soak; when it comes to rust, however, it will still be Evaporust in the multi-gallon container in my shop.

I placed a tool in a small mouth mason jar and filled it up to the neck with WD-40 specialty. I let it soak for 2.5 days, and when I returned to check on it I noticed what a wonderful job this product had performed on the tool. If you notice in my picture the tool only went halfway into the small mouth mason jar. The bottom portion of the tool was spotless clean while the metal handles are still rusted. WD-40 specialty worked incredibly well and I would recommend this to anyone who has rusty tools.

I decided to try WD-40 Rust Remover Soak on some very old tools from my Grandfather that I recently "rediscovered" after having them for over 60 years. I picked out some that I would not soak in WD-40 RRS (poor resolution picture on left) so I could compare the results with thepieces I did soak overnight (picture on right). All the tools started out very rusty-- but not pitted or stained. I was very happy with the soaked items. After some work with Scotch-Brite scour pads, they looked better than I had hoped. And the soak did not damage any of the wooden handles. The old axe looked ready to use.After that experience, I used the rest of the gallon to soak some of my own rusty screwdrivers, drillbits, files, pliers, and an old hammer head. The results were good, but not spectacular. What I found is that the better quality the tool, the better the result. A number of the cheapy tools picked up a black stain that was hard to remove. I rated this product a 5. It has no fumes, is totally biodegradable, and did not damage my hand or any other non-rusting materials. It delivers exactly what it promises: slowly removing mild to moderate rust.[If you look carefully at both pictures you will see little hooks like the ones your Great Grandfather used to lace his Spats.]

I put tools that had been in water and wouldn't open in a aluminum tube poured in this item left a few days and bang no rust and can easily open and close

This product is phenomenal AND it can be reused!! I had some of my husbands grandmas old iron pieces that were coated in years of rust, water, dust, mold and more rust. I soaked the items over night and all of it came off. Unreal. Great value too! $7.00 LESS than our Menards Store and it was free delivery w prime. Gotta love it!

This stuff just simply works. I had some really tough rust to get off an old tool and soaking it for days in vinegar didn't work. This WD40 rust remover took it off much more effectively and the rust didn't come back. I've attached up on this stuff for future projects.

Excellent results, best to pre-clean any crusty filth on surface for best results. Follow instructions and it is very easy to use!

Love it.. i hate scrubbing but was prepared to do it. so i was happy when I placed my old rusty tools in a bucket with this product. Left it soaking overnight.. next morning i lift my tool out the liquid and the rust literally just dripped off.. the package doesn’t say its for single use so i was able to put more items in my bucket of liquid. Those items came out clean so i said im going to reuse it a third and forth time. The rusty items cleaned just had to soak a bit longer. Nice way to get more use out of it.

Es un fraude el producto que les compré; lo aplicaba con rociadores y dejaba gotas qué no se integraba al metal, más parecido a agua. Después para sacar la duda, compré otra lata de DW-40 y este si tenía el olor peculiar del producto y los combiné para salir de dudas y en la foto se describe por si solo!No se mezclan!… NO OFREZCAN PRODUCTOS DUDOSOS

Excelente producto, de los mejores removedores de óxido que he utilizado.Se puede utilizar varias dependiendo del trabajo que hagan, normalmente los lizo 3-5 veces, siempre por periodos de 24 a 72hrs, dependiendo del óxido a remover.Es base agua, no daña pinturas ni deja películas.Elimina muy bien el óxido.

Tenía varios tornillos oxidados que intente limpiar con métodos caseros pero sin obtener éxito, este producto es realmente bueno, limpio todas las piezas al grado de no poder creer que tenían óxido, lo recomiendo.

Lo compré para probar en un tanque de gasolina de una moto que estába restaurando, me sorprendió los resultados removió todo el oxido dejándolo un actuar un día.

Muito bom. É caro mas retira totalmente as ferrugens.
