Terrible app - almost unusable - look elsewhere
I'm just going to reiterate what everyone else is experiencing - the app is terrible and renders the device almost unusable. How you ask? After futzing with the app two months ago when I got it, it took several attempts and about a half hour to register and get the meter connected. (I'm a IT guy - not a grandma). Well when I finally did, it wouldn't give R values for CRI unless the overall CRI was above 80 or so. Otherwise, it would not display any information at all.Now here I am two months later and wanted to simply check the color temperature of an LED bulb and have been spending the last 45 minutes because the app doesn't remember who I am or my login information but when I try to re-register, it tells me the account already exists and when I try to recover the password for the existing account, The app tells me that I don't have an account by that email address. Which is it?So what am I left to do? I have to delete the app (& download the latest) and re-register a new account. But is that a simple thing to do? No. The app pauses several minutes before EACH next screen before doing anything. I'm done with this. I wasted 40 bucks. It's going in the trash because I can't return it. Just want to save everybody the misery that I went through.

Android app does not work but Apple app works
Android app does not work but I loaded Apple app on my wife's I-phone, and it works. It used to work on android but stopped working probably because of operating system update. I didn't think to try the other Apple I-phone app till Jan 6th.I'm in the business of building LED ART LIGHTING. I also have lots of test LED chips and lamps. My first meter was off on Kelvin a lot. If the chip was 3K the meter showed 3300K I have another meter that shows apparent Kelvin and is accurate.I sent the 1st back and the 2nd one arrived with the meter missing. The bottom of the box was split and the meter black box was there but nothing else. Bet you a driver or warehouse person thought it was a phone.Third arrived and works perfect except incandescent or halogen shows Kelvin higher but the CRI is correct. Those who can't get the meter to hookup are not reading the instructions on the amazon site or you are using the old app for version 2 and 3. READ THE INSTRUCTION The right app for this unit is "OPPLE Smart"David Munson FineArtLight LLC Manchester MO

They just fixed it (~12/20/24) - Updated Review
I'm updating my review from 1 star to 4 stars, after their customer service team reached out to me, and I tried the app ONE Last Time -- I literally had to dig my unit out of the trash... and viola -- it finally WORKED!!!!Thank you Opple for fixing it!It looks like they just updated the app in the IOS Store, it says "bug fixes" ~ 2 weeks ago (12/20/24 ish). I had last tried it on 12/15. So it appears they fixed the registration page that wouldn't let you select your country or send a code, which made it so I could finally get in and connect to the device.FINALLY!!! I was able to actually test the Flicker in my lights.Truthfully, if I didn't encounter all the issues originally, I would have rated it a 4 or 5 (from a device/product perspective)... the app signup & use experience is still rather clunky, and I did waste countless hours (as did many other folks) trying to get it to work before they fixed the app... so giving it 3-4 stars.*******************Original Review Below:Well, after reading all the reviews, I thought I'd "Risk It" despite some reviews that it was working and others that said they couldn't get the App to work (WHICH IS REQUIRED TO USE IT). I figured since I'm skilled at Technology and workarounds on Apps, surely I'd be fine... NOOOOOPPPPEEE!STAY AWAY!The App literally hangs up at the Registration Screen where you're supposed to get "sent a code" -- specifically on the country/location list. It doesn't return ANY COUNTRIES, and since you can't select one, it won't email you a code to complete Registration. And if you can't register, you LITERALLY CANNOT USE IT.I tried everything, my iphone, an Android, and Android Simulator on a PC. I downloaded their other 4 Apps, including trying to simulate being in "Europe" but NO. I emailed their customer support, who tried to tell me that it was because location services needed enabled.... NOPE, I enabled it, it's ENABLED.Then they tried to say they don't have anyone else reporting that problem and that their app has been downloaded a thousand times... like seriously their App Rating is 1 STAR with multiple comments that it DOES NOT WORK. Just because someone downloads it, does not mean it's working. READ YOUR AMAZON and APPLE and GOOGLE REVIEWS Opple.STAY AWAY!!! Waste of money -- it's a paperweight do to their stupid App/Software Registration.

Avoid - simply not worth it
The Opple LM4 had many issues in the latter part of its development that (of course) I learned about after it was delivered to me. The troubled development has led to the LM4 having inaccurate R9 and RA readings, among others, which are all key information pieces. Without accurate readings, the LM4 is useless.Additionally, the definitely-not-malware Opple Smart Lighting app barely works. The provided QR code for app setup results in an error in-app, making it impossible to do the guest setup and forcing you to create an account using an email just to get into the app. After that, you must grant the app full location data access to connect to the LM4. This is a big privacy concern; unacceptable and unnecessary.Further, the app won't let you delete (cancel, as it's called in the app) the user account you make, citing existing projects as the reason why even though I have none. I'm glad I used a burner email for that account...I'm disappointed that this is how things turned out. I wish I had done more research on the LM4 before buying it. For those curious, look up the thread on BudgetLightForum named "Opple Light Master 4 discussion thread (new 2023 model)" for more information.
