U.S. Toy Siren Whistle, Assorted

I called these "zip whistles" when I was a kid. I remember them being at family fun arcades as redemption prizes for Skee-Ball tickets. Makes a fun "whoop-whoop-whoop" cartoon sound effect like someone running away. Comes in 6 colors, 2 each for a dozen. Pocket-sized. Appears to be well put-together.

LIKES: my daughter absolutely loves these whistles. She has so much fun with them. DISLIKES: they aren't super small, but they are small enough that I would not leave a smaller child unsupervised with them. They whistle both ways (inhale or exhale) so a child could easily suck one of these small whistles too far back on accident. Additionally, the volume, although varying based on how hard you inhale or exhale, can be quite loud and, after enough time, quite annoying lol. So, just fair warning.

Only a few worked improperly, but for plastic it was worth it. They sound fun & whimsical & not a bad deal costwise.

9 out of 12 didn’t work. 1 sort of worked if you blew really hard. 2 worked ok but the sound was kinda lame. I’ve heard these whistles before really sound kinda like a siren, these just kinda sound annoying (the two that work that is)

Great value. For anyone who says a few come broken, just blow really hard into them and it'll start working perfectly.

Siren whistles are very useful to musicians as a special effect. They have a great comical sound which is familiar to most people. This package of 12 is a fantastic buy! Often, you have to pay this price for just one! Every one of these worked, some better than others, but they all worked. The best ones worked absolutely perfectly, with a clear, loud sound with no noise, with the internal spinner spinning very freely(ideally, the spinner should spin well after you stop blowing; by the way, normally, you blow into the small end but it works no matter which end you blow into). The worst one was hissy and the spinner didn't spin too freely. I haven't tried fixing it somehow and I am not sure if it can be improved. But you get plenty of sirens in this assortment that work perfectly so if a few are not great, it is not a big deal.

I remembered these from ice cream trucks in the 80's. Fortunately, one of the 12 was in pieces. One of the twelve revved nicely. Most were wheezy, rattly, or warbly. They are three pieces. The colored housing, a finned/bladed turbine, and a colored thimble or cup like keeper. On some I could improve the sound by pressing the cup in more completely. I broke one trying. I ended up with about half sounding like I expected/hoped. On the bright side, with a pick you can disassemble the loose ones and mix the colors of the inserts.

These little brain worm noise-makers are perfect for making holes clean through your dome.
