This is a nice board. I ordered the 21 inch, and wow. I wasn't thinking about how large a 21 inch board was relative to me just wanting the biggest one, but I love it. The chess pieces are high quality and are of considerable size. I think this would make a excellent gift of for personal use. It is just not of the traveling type.

I purchased this as a gift for my girlfriend and she loves it. Nicely detailed pieces and the board is gorgeous. We only use it at home so the traveling part is no biggie. If you want a traveling set get one that is smaller and has magnetic pieces. My only complaint is the plastic divider that holds the pieces in individual cavities is cheap, thin, poorly fitted plastic. It is going to crack and break in no time. For the money they should be able to come up with something more substantial to protect the delicate wooden pieces.

Good made pieces

The pros: the board is beautiful. The pieces are also very nice and well made.The cons: the insert that holds the pieces is extremely cheap and fragile. Mine arrived broken in one of the corners. The cheap insert also leaves behind a green dust.

Was looking for a really nice chess set with detailed pieces and board. Better than I expected. Made me want to play chess more. Very much worth the price.

This is a nice looking board. It’s a good intermediate board without a big price. The pieces are nice but a little light and I’m always tipping them over. I would like them to be heavier. Otherwise I give this game 5 stars.

I got this chess set recently as I just started getting into Chess, and it’s super convenient for storage and travel. I purchased a 17” laptop bag to protect it and carry it around, and it fits great. The only one thing about this set itself is there are a few little details you may want to fix yourself. I went ahead and put newspaper behind the plastic/velvet trays and then glued them all in place around the edges so that when you fold the set open initially to get the pieces out they do not fall out, which kept happening to me. This also added some stability to the slots you insert the pieces into for storage. I also did notice that the small wooden balls they use for the queens crown was crooked on the black set, but was perfect on the white set. I honestly have just ignored it for now as it’s not a big deal, and this chess set did not break the bank or anything. Those are my 2 little caveats to it, but again, for the price you’re doing really good still.

The outcome of this chess set is unfortunate.2/5 stars immediately go to the chess board itself. It really is beautiful. I purchased the 12.5" and it is an enjoyable size. The staining is well done, the engraving is dark and deep, the lettering and numbering are nicely stylized. I really really like the board.Sadly, the craftsmanship seems to have ended there. 4 pieces do not sit flat on the board at all. The worst is one of the white pawns. It has such a big defect beneath the felt that it wobbles on the board as if it were a spinning top. A second white pawn, a red knight and a red bishop have similar defects. On more pieces the felt seems to be haphazardly placed, not at all centered.One red pawn has cracked holey wood on the head and the red queen has white seems to be red resin hardened to one of the white bobbles.Lastly, the tray the pieces sit in is a cheap plastic try that came with one chessman-slot already crunched in. I can't see how this tray can stand up to several uses.The pieces' defects are the greatest disappointment resulting in my decision to return the set.1/5 additional stars cause it can still function like a chessboard, and I guess I could rip the felt off and sand the bottoms down and refelt them...but I shouldn't have to.Last few notes, it is all very very light weight. If you're looking for a weighty feel to the board and pieces, this isn't it.
