Makes up for what the factory didn't provide. It's a shame that disc drives aren't standard on laptops anymore. I bought to look at some medical images and it works fantastic.

Most computers and laptops don't have an optical drive built in. With modern SSDs, many laptops don't have any moving parts at all. But I still need to burn and read DVDs, and usually I need to transport the drive around.You can get plenty of DVD drives for about this much money, and I think this is near the low end of the pricing, but I think it comes with a couple of very common sense features most drives don't have that I really like.First, there's large window so you know if a DVD is in the drive without plugging it in. It's large enough that you can tell which DVD is in the drive. This is very helpful as 99% of the time I misplace a disc, it's in one of these drives somewhere. This alone puts this over all the name brand DVD drives for convenience in day to day use.Second, the cable cleverly shoves into the base of the drive. The cable works on USB C or regular USB (same speed) and this setup keeps you from losing the cable, damaging it, and is a lot less cluttered. The cable is on the short side, but it plugs into my hub on my desk, or next to my laptop, so the short length doesn't bother me. Note, you can't just use another cable, as it's permanently attached, but you could use an extension cable if you needed.The burn speed is 8X, I generally use 4X so there's much less chance of a writing error. I haven't had any problems with this (or other modern) DVD burners. It's reliable both for reading and burning. It is audible when it works, but it's not annoying.Setup was easy, just plug and play with a modern computer.Build quality is normal. It slides open smoothly, the plastic seems strong, but it won't survive a really strong impact. You could drop it many times without a problem, but don't stand on it.All in all, this is the same as any other DVD burner, except it just has a couple of quality of life improvements that make it great.

I've already burned a few CDs using this little burner. It's plug and play and is easy to use. Pretty fragile, though, so be careful inserting or removing a CD or DVD. My biggest gripe is that the USB cord is only about 3 inches long. That may be ok for a laptop, but it's not convenient at all when you're trying to hook it up to a desktop, especially when the USBs are in the front of the tower. Overall, it's pretty good for the money.

I like this CD/DVD read/write USB drive. Two things that make this drive different (and better in my opinion) that many other’s I’ve owned or purchased for clients. Thes are the window in the case you are able to see what CD/DVD is inside or if the drive is empty and the cable has both USB-A and USB-C connectors.In use this drive’s short cable works fine. It stores nicely in the intended recess in the case and if it were longer it would not be able to do so. Still a longer cable would be helpful though it is consistent with most other external drives.In use it reads and writes CD/DVD media. CD or DVD Rewriteable and write once media worked fine. I burned a MP3 DVD I wrote with heaps of songs and put it into the Blu-ray player on my home theater to make sure other devices could read media burned on the drive. No worries and my home was filled with my favorite tunes all day long.So far I’ve had no problems and just wish it had a longer cable, but the one it has is consistent with most unit’s I’ve used. So not a specific complaint about this, more a general hope for future models… The choice of USB A or C is a very useful addition to the common USB A only connection.I’m very pleased and this USB CD/DVD reader/burner drive. As of this review it is very reasonably priced ($25.99). The dual plug cable and nice clear window that lets me see the media in the drive are welcome pluses. It works great and I can’t really ask a lot more of a USB CD/DVD read/writer. That’s why I’m giving this one 5 stars.

The media could not be loaded.  These days most computers / laptops do not come with a CD/DVD drive, so an external drive is needed if you need to play music from the old CD’s or videos from the DVDs you own. I own a lot of music CDs that I bought 20+ years ago. I thought I made a digital copy of all the CDs but missed a few. With this drive, I was able to import those missing ones to my computer.This is a nice drive, plug & play, no drivers/software to install. I like that the cable has both USB Type A and C connectors. No need for an adapter if your laptop does not have a USB Type-A port. Worked with my 2012 Mac Mini running macOS Catalina. The drive also worked with my 2016 and 2020 MacBook Pro with the latest OS. The Music app detected the device and prompted me to import the CD. It took around 4 minutes to import a dozen (60 minutes) songs.I also connected the drive to my Windows 11 PC. I was able to view the contents of a DVD. I was able to successfully burn 580MB of files to a Sony CD-R. It took 3-4 minutes to burn the CD. See some images & video I uploaded. I had to take screenshot of the monitor, so sorry for the poor quality of the three images and video.This is an excellent drive, a must have and highly recommended for anyone that owns a lot of CDs and would like to make a digital copy of them for backup or to play on your computer, smartphone, tablet etc.

Handy Spare DVD Drive, front facia slightly flimsy, so care is needed when operating, but overall a good piece of Kit, at a reasonable price, plus Speedy Delivery, needed quickly because my PC's Internal DVD Drive started playing up....

DVDドライブの無いタイプのノートパソコンでエロゲをインストールする為に購入時しました。結果として何の問題もなく使用出来ました、強いて言うなら少しだけ読み込みが遅い気がしたくらいです。透明で中が見えるので読み込みが止まるとすぐわかるというのも良いポイントですね。

I can't say much to the longevity and durability, I've used it a total of 10 times... CDs are pretty rare these days. But it reads, it writes, it rips fine too! It looks nice too, I like the form factor.I hope it'll last the longrun though, it feels VERY light. I don't plan to be rough on it but I hope the drive sled etc is good. The release is nice and snappy but it is motorised, which makes me a little worried. It is more a magnetic short snap/open, but you can't open or close it without power so it definitely has a motorised element.Main thing is, it works.
