Very informative.
I bought this book, and a leather craft kit for my husband's birthday. He hasn't had an opportunity to start using it yet, but he said he really liked the book, and thinks it will be very useful. Apparently he'd been looking at this one for a while, and it just happened to be the one I picked. Which worked out great. He's really excited to get into leather working.

A great book for beginners
Getting Started in Leather Crafting. This is a great book for beginners just getting started in leather crafting. The authors cover all the basics from what leather is and how to work with it. The book is loaded with high quality color photos and set by step instructions on how to cut, stitch, stamp and die leather. It even covers attaching hardware to finished leather projects; something missing in other books. The only thing lacking is projects and patterns; there are none in this book. One or two projects would have been a nice addition. The book will show you the skills you need to work with leather; what you make is left up to you. One star off for the lack of projects. If you are just getting started, this is the book for you. If you already know the basics; it is still a nice book to refer back to occasionally as a refresher. How does that mystery braid go again?..

Excellent beginner resource.
I like the way this book invites you to jump right in. You don't have to be a master craftsman to enjoy working with leather. The working knowledge of the leather craft is pretty well condensed here. Plenty of pictures to give you ideas for future projects. They don't suggest them. The ideas you get just flow off the pages! I appreciated the lesson on the floral design. They follow the same rhythm of work as the Old Masters. I'm glad they didn't skip over that. I recommend this book because I had it in my collection once and I couldn't find it when I needed it and it deserves to be in my library.

Too short, no instructions
Not very helpful. It's more like a brochure for leather techniques, it's pretty, but the instructions lack depth because it covers so much in 45 pages. This is a thin book. It mentioned conditioning leather but didn't have instructions. It had one small section on sewing. No details on start and stop. Nothing on knots to use. I need more information. It does not have any projects. Even one basic wallet from start to finish would have taught me so much.

I bought the kindle edition based upon the high ratings. But to be honest it’s a poorly laid out book with limited information behind the high level descriptions. The sewing section doesn’t even include the saddle stitch! Misses out a good introduction section, or any form of structure to the content, not recommended for beginners or anyone expecting a detailed guide to working with leather.

Me hubiera gustado muchísimo disfrutarlo en una edición en español,tendré que traducirlo con el diccionario,así aprende uno algo de inglés también,es fantástico

The book is thinner than I expected - more like a very good quality magazine than a book. However, it has some useful content for beginners like me as it shows with clear pictures and explanations of many of the techniques needed to make leather items. It is not a project book, it’s more of a handy reference book that you can quickly and easily refer to during your learning process.

This is not a complete leather working guide, but it touches on a lot of topics. It talks about stitching, lacing, embossing, coloring, finishing edges, cutting plus a few other topics. Enough information to get beginners started and headed in the right direction, a great book for the price I'm happy I bought it.
