Works pretty well at sharpening knives
Very new to sharpening knives but had a few dull ones. Decided to give this a try instead of replacing them. Soaked the stones in water for around 15 minutes or until there were no more bubbles and then started using it. The guard was not easy to use so we decided to do without it. As we're sharpening, we're also making sure the stone is wet by adding some additional water on top as needed. We only did this for a few minutes and probably didn't use it properly since we tried to slice a paper without much success. This is after sharping with both stones. In terms of cutting through meat and vegetables though, it seems to be a big improvement. We'll continue to sharpen the knives and hopefully can get it correct over time.

Great set!!!
After reading some negative reviews I was a bit hesitant, but I purchased it anyway as it is very inexpensive. The kit is in perfect condition. The stones are flat, perfectly cut and ready for a soak and use. The geometry on my knife edges was a bit off from using my belt grinder without a jig. It puts a quick edge on the knife but not a very long lasting one. With this kit I can restore all of the cutting edges back to their correct geometry. The clip knife holder does have a bit of slack when installed. Make sure you push it down until it is solid on the clip, then sharpen, if you do not then the knife will move a bit in the clip. Constant downward pressure prevents this.

Great value for a basic wet stone honing system
Use primarily for sharpening kitchen knives, wood chisels, plane irons. Great value for a basic water stone sharpening set. Beginners should do some research on how to use this type of kit and how to use a butcher's sharpening steel to maintain kitchen knives. For kitchen knives, there's no need to use the stones more than a few times a year, once you've formed a satisfactory edge - a sharpening steel (a long rod of hardened steel with fine honing grooves, not included in this kit) is used for maintenance of cutting edges on kitchen knives. The grit range of this kit is adequate for knife and blade maintenance. I rarely go finer than the 1000-grit stone for kitchen knives, followed by a few strokes with a butcher's steel. If you want to shave hair with a blade, the finest 8000 grit is needed, followed by stropping on the included strop with honing compound like green chromium oxide or white compound for steel. The honing angle of the blade against the stones is important, around 15 degrees. A plastic honing guide that clips onto knife blades is included in the kit but is useful only for chef knives with relatively wide blades. On narrow blades, the honing guide produces too steep an angle. Learn to judge the honing angle by eye. Don't use the plastic clip-on guide unless it gives a sharpening angle of around 15 degrees.

Quality product, Excellent customer service
I have been using a Chef’s Choice 3-stage electric sharpener. The $150 electric sharpener does a good job, and is very easy to use, but it doesn’t work well on a few thin and razor-sharp Japanese slicing / carving knives. So I decided to try this set.The stones appear to be of good quality. The rubber frames fit in the bamboo base very well. The base is solid and non-slippery. My knives are still quite sharp and do not require the use of the 400/1000 stone. So far, I have only used the 3000/8000 stone to sharpen the knives. It is easy to use and produces razor-sharp edges on my 15-degree knives. Also, to my pleasant surprise, the seller provided excellent customer service to resolve a minor issue.

Good Product, lousy instruction
The stones are just what they are supposed to be, but the other items in the kit are a bit of a mystery. Not listed in the instructions at all. (strop, piece of leather, wax, weird item for sharpening a chisel(?))
