Go For Love
This book was recommended by a sorority sister. I got it from the library. To be honest, as I started reading, I almost quit and returned it. I just could not get very interested in it at least the first half. I would try and read it at night nd immediately fall asleep. I kept at it nd all of a sudden the characters came to life. I am SO VERY GLAD that I stuck it out,as it turned out so good. I had deep gut reel my that Violet would eventually end up in love with Silas. After think through the entire book that he was a thief but as Aunt Birdie always told her Marry for Love, and she made the right choice. I knew she couldn't marry Nelson for two reasons. His love for Katya and visa versa Kaya's for Nelson, a threesome was doomed. Louis was just way too religious for her, and I could never imagine her happy with him or working and living in the slums, even though she had great empathy for the immigrants, she wouldn't ever be happy. I am so happy that she rejected Herman. What a boring dork. That would have been a huge disaster. It was so touching when she finally found her mother. I really wished, she had been more diligent in trying to get her mother to leave the burlesque, but still she found out that her mother did indeed love her... This is the first book but Lynn Austin, but it won't be the last. A great love story.

Oh what a wonderful experience.
I laughed. I cried. I turned pages quickly to help alleviate my ever increasing angst.I love the history of women and the terrible limitations they had. I love it even more when it can be turned into true love. But to experience the angst of a woman experiencing it with so many offers and options but with no sign of possible love was almost unbearable. This story has so many twists and turns... and none of them seemed to bring me the relief I was hoping our poor character would find. All of the characters were given such truly wonderfully complete personalities that I loved them all as if they were family. I hurt with them. I had compassion for them. I wanted true happiness for them. My heart ached with the events and circumstances they endured.Life is like that. Truth is like that. But God... These words have followed some of the toughest heartaches of my life and proceed every testimony that God produced through them.Life is uncertain. Tears are inescapable. People are not always what we want or hope. Our futures are full of so many uncertainties.I do not know if I will ever experience the type of love that I long for or the type of love that I have given only to have it not returned... but I do know that God knows if I will... and that God's love is the best love available.Experience what proper pursuit should look like, feel like, and sound like and never settle for less.Until then, I highly recommend you take this journey and experience this wonderful story. You will never regret it.

Fantastic romance with the World's Fair in Chicago as a backdrop.
A Proper Pursuit covers so many topics it's hard to know where to begin. I loved how Violet got to experience all walks of life to some degree while staying in Chicago. Violet have several eccentric aunts and a grandmother who did a lot of work with the poor. One had dementia, another was a feminist, another highly religious, and another had married for money and tolerated her husband's dalliances. The setting included the World's Fair in 1893. I loved that Violet learned so much when she spent those months with her aunts, including how selfish her own heart tended to be. I especially enjoyed her pursuit of the real meaning of love. It was hilarious how she described the feeling of being in love as being similar to a sickness. She was naive in many ways, but also very wise because she looked beyond the outward appearances the majority of the time.Violet had a variety of potential suitors, and they were all very different. She learned about getting to know people better and not just exiting in a world of socialites playacting their roles and eating dainties while visiting the rich. As the story moved along, readers got to know each of the men, and discovered the good and the bad about them along with Violet.Poor Violet just wanted to be loved for who she was...and to find her mother so she could find out why she abandoned her so many years ago. Neither task was easy, though the particulars were so well-written that I found myself growing anxious on so many levels. I cared about all of the characters in this book. The author's voice and setting really brought Violet to life in my mind. Her desperation for her mother's love was emotionally evocative, too.And talk about an intense romantic element with some whopper kisses! I won't tell you which man she finally received those romantic kisses from because it would spoil the fun...but I can say that Violet discovered that it was possible to find true love. I just about melted when she was kissed that first time. The author really built the tension, and did it so well that I felt a bit breathless myself.Wonderful writing, an amazing setting full of accurate historical details, believable dialog, tender romance, and a solid faith thread made this book a real winner.
