Who Was Alexander Hamilton?

Great for little Hamilton fans
My kids love The Who was/is series of biographies and this is a particularly good installment! They are currently obsessed with the Hamilton musical and have seen it live (Angelica Tour), know all of the lyrics, have read the libretto compendium, visited the historical sites, and have a ton of fan art. When I say obsessed I really mean it lol. They aren’t ready to read the Chernow adult biography since they are still in elementary school but they still wanted to know more about Alexander Hamilton in a fun and accessible way. This book is great for younger kids! The art, timelines, fun facts, and historical tidbits are all clear and organized in a dynamic way. The content is all really interesting and there aren’t any sections that drag or get monotonous. Content wise it’s really easy to read and I do wish they’d increase the reading difficulty with challenging vocabulary and more advanced syntax. Kids will read it in one sitting but since it’s engaging they won’t notice. The art is well illustrated and it’s overall a very solid book that kids will read over and over again for fun. I got it a week ago and my daughter has read it 3 times and my son has read it twice I think. They like being in that Hamilton head space so they play the musical while casually reading and day dreaming. It’s a great casual biography option for little Hamilton fans.

Great gift idea to go along with the trip to see Hamilton in person at the Theatre!
I took my Grandson to see the musical Hamilton in Chicago! He loved it! I saw this book and thought it would be a great addition to the experience and he just loves history! Fantastic book!

Great book (and fact checker!)
Our family, like so many others, watched Hamilton this summer and LOVED it! This book provided a great overview for the kids. The adults read through it as well! It was interesting to read about all of Alexander Hamilton's accomplishments and how he made his mark on a young country. The kids also enjoyed relaying to me the liberties Lin-Manuel Miranda had taken in his storytelling/songwriting. A quick, thorough, and engaging read, especially for young "Hamilfans" like ours!

Great age-appropriate book
My son loves history and the Who Was/Is series. We enjoyed reading this book together, especially after seeing Hamilton the musical. One change I would like to see the publisher make is to update the use of the terms “Indian” and “American Indian” to “Native Americans” or “First Nations people.”

We love all the Who Was books
This little book has a lot of great information. My 12 year old child got into Hamilton the musical, which was a perfect excuse to do in depth on our founding fathers' studies. This book is great for my 10 and 7 year old kids as well. My kids we'll be doing a presentation on different founding fathers for our homeschool group, so this is very helpful. Great price too!

OMG! Very educational
Easy reading and actually for an adult I learned more than I did when I was in history class in college from this book..I ordered 3 more for grand kids..Very educational... what happen is I can see how history repeats its self. I never paid any attention to Hamilton until now..I look at the $10.00 bill totally diffrent now.

Another great book in the series
My son really enjoys all of the books in this series. We often pick them up at museums and during our travels to make the trip a little more educational. We bought this one after watching the hamilton musical to better understand the events described.

Should have been researched a bit better
The book is interesting but there are some mistakes in it. (1) The things that Mr Dodgson and his brothers and sisters hid under the floorboards where a glove and a thimble, one well-used left shoe, one white glove, one doll-size teapot lid, bits of crab shell and the letter S from an alphabet game, but no block of wood or a handkerchief! (2) Alice Liddell the inspiration for the Alice stories didn't get the official Published book on the 4th of July 1866 but 1865. (3) It is true that Mr Dodgson and Alice did meet again in June 1870 but it was 5 years since they had seen each other last not 7 years. (4) Sir John Tenniel was not keen on writing the sequel Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there mainly because Mr Dodgson had been very fussy about how every Picture should be drawn. (5) When Mr Dodgson wanted to publish the manuscript titled Alice's Adventures Underground in 1885, he asked Alice's permission by writing a letter to her. There is no mention in the well researched book that I read before this about them running into each other in town unexpectedly. (6) Alice received the manuscript on the 26th of November 1864 as an early Christmas present (not during Christmas). (7) Alice didn't like being photographed until she was 4 and a half. I also find that the real Alice is given very little credit for her part in this she may not have been the one who wrote the book but she did ask the author to write it for her. If this little girl hadn't we wouldn't have these books right now. I prefer the book The other Alice: the story of Alice Liddell and Alice in Wonderland. It was a lot better researched. Plus it credits both the author and the little girl.
