Zero complaints about this WDT tool
This WDT tool feels good in hand and looks good, too.It comes with perfect needles, which is the most important thing for a WDT tool. It comes with 10 installed, and you may wish to remove a few. It's an extremely easy process: just unscrew the needle base from the top cap and pull out needles as necessary. I find that between 5-7 needles seems to work best for declumping while not shoving the grounds all around like 10 would. There's really no need to spend big on a WDT tool; it's not too hard to make your own. But for the price of buying some acupuncture needles, you may as well just get a better-looking WDT tool like this for ~$15.Also of note is that the tool simply rests on top of its base without any kind of connection or friction between the two halves. This is preferable to me, but I'm not sure if anyone else is expecting it to click in or screw in and needs to know.

A great WDT for a great price
Alright, if you are on this part of amazon, it is likely that you are already down deep in the rabbit hole that is home espresso. If you are like me, you strive towards excellence with your machine - and that means that you are looking to improve your puck prep. I've used it all, distributors, all different types of tampers, a puck screen, and several iterations of the notorious Weiss Distribution Technique "tools". The first one being some needles stuck through a wine bottle cork - worked fine but needed some upgrades. The second one was a cheapo $4 WDT tool from Alibaba. I finally did some more research and saw Lance Hedrick's numbers on WDT tool that say you should be using needles that are 0.3mm or less. This is close enough right? right?Well this came in and I am impressed with the quality, it is metal and heavy, and feels pretty good in the hand. The feature that I like the most is the ability to take out and move certain needles. Like another review said, taking out the middle needles and leaving the outer ones changes it from a "moving the grounds around the portafilter in a stirring motion" to "breaking apart the grinds" I have seen a noticeable difference in my espresso since buying this.Yes, you can get a cheaper one, but is $20 really that bad?

Good enough
Great-ish. Its made of what appears to be 2 solid chunks of metal so it feels incredibly sturdy in hand. It also comes with replacement needles in case any snap off. The finish is nice and you'll be hard-pressed to find something with a better construction for $20. The only issue I have is that the needles splay out so you have to crunch them with your fingers to get them to fit back in the holster. Its not a big deal at all but it doesn't feel fantastic when you put it down and bend a needle because you didn't scrunch it up enough. Overall, its easy to live with the flaw but it could be better too. 4.5/5

Exceptionally well designed
Has all the features needed in a WDT tool. Needles are the perfect diameter ( .35 mm) and length. The ends are blunted so they won't scratch the bottom of of your basket. Came with 14 needles so there's a lifetime of spares. Ten of these were installed which was too many. Removed seven leaving only three which was perfect. Needles can be removed and put back easily with a pair of pliers. Too many needles produces clumps which we don't want. The base is heavy for enhanced stability and it has a felt or fabric bottom surface preventing it from sliding. Fits perfectly in the hand. Overall a perfect design.

Daily use
I use this WDT tool every single day twice a day. I have had my espresso maker for almost three months. And every time I am about to make a coffee, I am using this. It comes with extra needles in case you break some or lose them. So I like that. Also it is very aesthetically pleasing with my breville

I LOVE THIS WDT HOLY CRAP
Seriously get this. The build quality, the weight, the needle thickness the distribution everything about this is phenomenal . If you have a matte black setup this is the one for you.Changing out the needles are a breeze and you get like 5 extra. I took out the inner 4 just cause it was moving around the coffee a little too much, but literally 30 seconds later it’s perfect.I love this thing, the base is heavy, it feels like my normcore tamper it’s just so nice and sleek and simple. I love this thing. Hit that buy button already

Not enough replacement pins
I was really enjoying the tool but happened to drop it on the counter and the wires/pins bent really easily. I was annoyed but knew I had replacements so I fetched those, then realized there are only four?I tried my best to bend the original wires into a straight angle but it’s almost impossible since they’re so thin and spin. After giving up on straightening I inserted the four new wires and realized they won’t even stay in the hole they just fall out after insertion. It’s pretty frustrating that the replacements aren’t sufficient to serve their role as well as not being usable even IF they can be held in place but I’ll say it worked fine when it was not messed up. Going to buy another but probably will try a different brand.
