Saved Old Gas Can
When my old spout snapped off while filling the lawnmower I figured it would be time to get a new can. Purchased this spout and it saved the old plastic can. Seems durable and I like the cap lash. Which is why it’s not a five star review - the hole to push the retaining end of the lash was flashed over and I had to open up with a small drill bit.Didn’t use the vent as my older can had it already.

It's almost like Obama never happened
Whatever the private sector designs in flawless manor, the government always has the power to step in and ruin. Thank God that the people have the power to overcome. Pop a half inch hole in the rear and push the vent in, screw the spout on (don't worry, it has different threaded caps to fit) and pour that sweet, sweet gasoline the way the good lord intended.

Excellent replacement for the post-2009 container spouts!
I purchased two EZ-POUR spouts with the extensions to install on two new Midwest 2 gallon fuel containers. I prefer this size (about 12# full) to the 5gallon variety (about 30# full). They are much easier to safely handle when fueling small engine devices, as in my case 4 stroke only….trimmer, leaf blower, lawn mower, plus a Champion 3000W portable emergency power generator. I simply don’t care to mix the oil with gasoline and the resulting smell and smoke. The first thing on my agenda was to immediately deep six the useless and dangerous EPA mandated spouts on the Midwest containers. Good bye gasoline all over the place, even with careful handling. These spouts remind me of the childproof Rx containers that virtually no senior citizen could open. At least the braintrust at the FDA saw the error of their ways and allowed consumers to use a screw-on feature. Perhaps the EPA should consult with the FDA to work out a manner by which the consumer can opt for either the new spout or the pre-2009 traditional spout. Well, enough of the political rhetoric and on with the important stuff. These EZ-POUR spouts are made of high quality materials. Fit, finish and functionality are perfect. I really like the moderate flexibility of the larger spout…making it one to accurately and effortlessly aim the fuel flow into the tanks. The Hi-Flow spout takes care of the generator for a quick fill. The reducer spout, which attaches to the Hi-Flow, is ideal for the small engine fuel tank ports. Another attractive attribute are the two caps that screw-on, rather than flip-ups. Each has a very effective rubber gasket to prevent a leak. The instructions refer to the possible use of a sealant when installing the vent. I strongly suggest you do so. A number of reviewers have complained about a leak at the vent after installation. The vent is made of extremely hard plastic. The Midwest container material is also quite rigid. It is a straightforward and easy conclusion that the two will not normally mate when installed to effectively prevent a leak. Make the decision to use or not use a sealant before you attempt to install the vent. Once in the tank and secure, it can’t be removed without damaging the vent beyond repair. The following is my experience with installing the vent with SealAll. I installed the vent at the back of the container handle, a good distance above the full fill marker. That will avoid continuous contact of fuel with the vent. So, I chose a position and drilled a pilot hole with a 3/16” regular drill bit. Then I engaged the ½” paddle bit, commonly called a wood boring bit. About 90% of the drilling residue will fall outside the container. The balance will be inside the container. Use 220 grit emery sanding paper to carefully remove drilling burs in the hole. The manufacturer suggested Threebond 1184 sealant ($14.89 at Amazon). I recommend SealAll 380112 ($5.69 at Amazon) contact cement and sealant. Both are non-silicon based and are petroleum products (gasoline, kerosene, motor oil, etc.) resistant. I have used SealAll for years while restoring older British roadsters (MG, Triumph, Healey) and have never has a failure of a joint/seal. You’ll have a lot of SealAll left over, but it is perfect form many household applications. It’s my duct tape in the contact cement/sealant world. Now we move on to sealant application. I recommend using a cocktail pick with the little spade on one end. It’s perfect for applying the sealant to all contact surfaces between the vent and container. Just squeeze a little blob onto some tinfoil and scoop it up as necessary with the spade tip….be conservative. Application directly from the tube is very messy and unpredictable. Also, I had a real problem inserting the vent and locking it in place the first time out. My fingers/thumb are not sufficiently powerful enough to press the vent into place….it’s a tight fit, to say the least. I resorted to using slip joint pliers (adjustable) to press the vent into place on container #2 and it went in like a breeze. Problem solved. The container was then filled with about 6oz of gas and sloshed around to rinse out the interior. Now came a full fill and leak test. I rotated the container upside down, forward and back…every possible axis…and not a spilled drip was noted. Perfectly sealed at every connection point, Amen! I‘ve provided a picture of the finished product and my tools. Thank you for listening.

Fits great and replaces the over-engineered spout.
The over-engineered spouts have failed too many times for me to keep replacing them. This simple replacement kit solves the issue.

Works well but expensive
Hard to find one of these that work well and last. This one is simple and works very well and should last for many years. A little expensive for what you get though. Would however buy again.
