Good stuff
I replaced the 70 year old, rusted out, ash dump in my fire place. The new ash dump was a little too small so I used this to seal it in place around the edges. I also used this to seal several cracks in the mortar and brick around the piping for the gas line. It was very easy to apply and was dry to the touch in 24 hours. I'm pleased with the final results and appearance.

Effective, but bubbles
I applied a two thin layers of the mortar over two days in my home fireplace where there were a some small to medium-sized cracks, then built a fire just short of a week later. Like other reviewers have observed there was some bubbling -- about the diameter of a pea per bubble (maybe 0.5cm protruding). I'm not sure why that happens. The mortar appears to do its job, though, and the bubbling is going to be hidden by ash, so I think I'm overall pleased with this product.Regarding amount, the 8 oz was sufficient for a an isolated home repair job. If your fireplace or other device has many cracks or large gaps, i would recommend finding a larger quantity or a different product.

No instructions on how to apply for best effect. Did a ton of research online
No instructions on how to apply for best effect. Did a ton of research online, and painstakingly cleaned the surfaces for application. If you use it as directed, it will peel off. It works relatively decently, but the cured consistency and strength is reminiscent of rust formed on a car body: rust might be strong, but you touch it and it crumbles right off.My best guess on the best way to apply this without it flaking off would be to mix it with a mixture with sand, plaster of paris, and a small amount of pea gravel. Afterward, you might be able to clean the surface without losing the texture so that you can use the small sprinkling of pea gravel to get a better grip on it. You'd lose some of the thermal efficiency with the thick mixture but if it had an absurd amount of cleaned texture to grip onto, it *should* take the thermal expansion and retraction a bit better and not bounce off of the material. KEEP IN MIND: I have not tested this yet, and the plaster of paris itself is somewhat brittle (hence the sand addition) but with the right portions and the right person, it might be a good way to make this work a bit better.

Strong adhesive
Great fireplace insert repair adhesive. My fireplace insert split into three large sections and this cement reattached the pieces and filled in some gaps in the insert panel. Once cemented together the insert panel was as good as ever. I may have over applied the cement but it reattached about 4 feet of broken pieces with some extra mortar on the front and back for good measure. I have had several fires since using this product and it has held up with no signs of cracking. Highly recommended for this use.

Already coming apart
I have to do it over again. The product is gone now, I want to send a picture but they want too much information to just send the picture.

Let stand until thoroughly dry
Excellent product, works very well. I used to fill a large mortar hole in my fireplace but only let dry for 24 hours (this was a deep hole; prolly 3") and it bubbled a little during the first fire. Otherwise holds very well! Stopped crumbling immediately after one use.
