The author acknowledges that there are overlaps in distributions of behaviour of boys and girls but it is clear that there are differences in medians. Parents and teachers are certainly aware of the issues and older boys do talk among themselves about unbalanced programmes for gender balance. But it is something that we are afraid to talk about. It shows the huge inertia of public policies that cannot keep up with changes in society. I too was surprised that video games only take up six hours a week.
