Princesses Wear Pants

The authors, Savannah Guthrie and Allison Oppenheim, have written a fun book for children with good lessons learned. Princess Penelope Pineapple lived with her brother Prince Philippe, their royal cat, Miss Fussywiggles, in a lovely castle. They were the children of the king and queen. Princess Penelope had lovely pink cheeks and beautiful brown eyes and swinging ponytails. However, what was more beautiful than the ponytails was her closet full of dazzling dresses and beauteous tiaras. But, Princess Penelope was an adventurous girl, and she liked to wear pants while partaking of all of her activities. She had many things to do. When you read this book you will discover how fortunate it was that Princess Penelope wore pants. Adults will enjoy reading this book to their children.The children will be able to identify with Princess Penelope in her understanding of why and when it is necessary to wear pants. They will be able to give many accounts of when this could be true. The illustrations by Eva Byrne, are bright, colorful, and dazzling. They depict the adventures of Princess Penelope, her family, friends and Miss Fussywiggles. The book is written in rhyme, and that is one of the best ways for children to hear a story. The lessons learned are also an important part of this story. What fun a Princess who knows what she wants! I read this book with my 5 year old granddaughter, and we both enjoyed the story and the illustrations. My granddaughter liked the fact that the older woman was able to change her mind when she was shown how helpful pants are. Recommended. prisrob 09-12-17

Really cute and held 3 1/2 year old attention!

I preordered this book back in February because I loved the way Savannah Guthrie talked about the book and the concept behind it. Girls are more than just pretty dresses and sparkles. It is a lovely book, with wonderful illustrations. My favorite line in the book reads: She loved to sparkle, loved ruffles, too. "But I wear pants," she said " 'cause I've got things to do!" Just buy the book, you won't be disappointed. Thanks Savannah for a great story!

I love Savannah Guthrie, and she has hit a home run with this book. Princess Penelope has become a staple in our home, especially since the tv show has come out. We read this book constantly, and its message is just wonderful for little girls everywhere.

This is such a great book! The story offers children a different way to view what a princess should look like. The emphasis is on what she DOES, not how she looks. My girls giggled through the entire story and they loved the illustrations. The last couple pages (very unexpectedly) brought tears to my eyes. Such a fantastic book that will surely make a lasting impression in our youngest girls. Well done!

My daughter was in this phase where she refused to wear pants. I know, I know, just make her wear them. I did at times, but not without a tantrum that would ruin all of our mornings and it just wasn't worth it sometimes. This is literally the only time my daughter would throw a tantrum about anything! I kid you not, after reading through this story ONE time, and talking about how its okay to love dresses but sometimes a girl has just got to wear pants to get things done, and she now will wear them. This is such a pretty book with a cute story. I loved the illustrations. My 5 year old grand daughter likes to play dress up in her princess dresses. She is learning to read. As we read it I showed her how every book needs an author, an illustrator, and a publisher before it comes to her! The author, Savannah Guthrie, is one of my favorite NBC Today Show hosts.

I've never been a fan of princesses but I bought this for my daughter and will buy for all of my nieces, too. Anytime we can teach young girls it's okay to be a little different, I'm in! Thank you for finally making a princess product without a freaking prince! I want my daughter to be independent and scrappy, so we don't buy "prince saves the day" books. I'm a fan of anything that encourages girls to be themselves!
