worth having in case of potable water emergency
arrived quicklyThis filter is used extensively by backpackers etc. you can take questionable water from puddles, streams, ponds etc and run it through this filter and it will be drinkableI like that in can backflush to clean it out and prolong the lifeI like that any standard plastic soft drink bottle or shop bought water bottle can be used to collect the water to be filtered and screwed on to this filter, squeeze the bottle upside down and clean drinking water comes out the filter. This does filter out cryptospiridium to 99% which is as good as any filters claim to achieve, and this is a fraction of the cost of many othersA huge advantage of this is that it is so small and portable. ideal for home backup or emergency use.Highly recommend backflushing this to clean it every time its used to clean dirty water. eg always filter 500ml more than what you need and backflush it with the extra 500ml to keep it clean.let it dry thoroughly after use so inside doesnt grow mould and bacteriadont let it freeze, though this seems bombproof, freezing will destroy the filter. so if you find yourself in freezing conditions, keep it close to your core body warmth, perhaps in a ziplock bag in your pocket

Best on the market
Tried and tested. Perfect for the wild camping thru hiker. Lightweight, clean and a quick filter. My only recommendation is to bin off the crappy bladders they supply and get yourself a CNOC OutdoorsVecto 2L Water Container - (42mm) instead - it'll save you a lot of hassle in the filling process and screws right onto the filter. Google that product.

Good glow rate, easy to use
Flow rate better than mini. Easy to use. I use a Cnoc 2 litre bag over the one supped. J would buy again.

Haven't used it yet
Bulky while packed with all these attachments. On its own it looks fine, can be attached on any classic water bottle. But you still need the syringe after to clean it and empty all the water trapped in the filter. The bag problem and the fact it's not see through is annoying and I'll might have to spend more on a better bag.

Sawyer Squeeze is good
The Katadyne BeFree may have a faster flow and be easier to clean but the Squeeze (and mini) last until you lose it. You just need to sort out how to purge the Squeeze filter when out on the road because the syringe isn't great. The provided dirty bag is OK but many prefer to use a good quality bag with a wide neck.

Greta for camping or the zombie apocalypse or nuclear meltdown...
Being serious these are great for long hiking trips with family - you never know when you might be stuck or lost and need access to water, i rarely use this unless im showing off and drinking pond water to demonstrate how great it is. For serious campers and hikers its a must have and yes its also good to have in case of any emergency situation

When you think "Personal water filter"...
... you think "Sawyer Squeeze". Go to any camping/hiking/survivalist forum and ask what water filter you should get and 90% of the answers will be this one. Don't be put off by the lack of packaging. These are genuine. But do yourself a favor and get the Evernew Hydration Pack (I went with 1500ml) and toss the one provided in a draw somewhere as an emergency back up.

Compact, versatile, fast to use, lightweight, and filters smaller microbes than others. A must-have for backcountry use.
First of all, make sure to NEVER let your filter get below freezing if it has ever been used, no matter how well you think at may have dried out. Freezing can damage the tiny holes in the filter and it will no longer be effective against pathogens. If you are using it for cold weather, always keep it in a pocket near your body to stay warm. Now, that's actually one of the best reasons to use this filtering system. It's incredibly compact and fits in a pocket, no problem. All water filters have to be kept out of freezing temps.I have relegated my pump-action filter to emergency household use and no longer carry the heavy and clunky system for camping. The Sawyer is much lighter, more reliable, more versatile, and faster to use than any pump system. I keep mine inside a small half of a plastic bottle. I use the plastic bottle to scoop water when the water source is too shallow or dripping in small amounts and then pour it into the pouch.I recommend getting a few extra 64 ox pouches. They weigh close to nothing, take up very little room, and work great as backups and extra water carrying capacity. The versatility of this filter is outstanding and can be configured in many ways:1. Set up the filter on the squeeze pouch and filter the dirty water as you go instead of sitting at a water source and wasting time filtering before use. You can just fill it up and get on with your hike very quickly, especially if you keep the filter and pouches accessible. You can even hold multiple pouches of dirty water and drink them as you go, and just cap them off when not being used.2. Use a combination of dirty and clean pouches if you wish to filter the water first and then store it clean. This also works great if you have to filter water for other people. You can attach one end to the filled dirty pouch and the other to the clean pouch. Squeeze the water through and then hand off the clean water pouch to anyone who needs it. I also like the idea of storing clean water in the pouch so there isn't any additional bacteria growth inside the pouch on warm days.3. Use the filter in-line on a hydration bladder. Fill the bladder with dirty water and then suck the water through the hose as you drink. Only drawback I can see here is that there would be some dirty water be exposed to the inside of your pack, which may be an issue. The only thing I can think of that this filter lacks, is a proper carbon filter for helping to remove toxins such as lead and pesticides. This is why I still use my carbon pump filter system for home and vehicle emergency use, as I will more likely encounter toxins in the water in those situations than when out in the mountains.

Best backpacking water filter out there - end of story
I've tried a LOT of hiking water filters over the years and the Sawyer is by far the best out there. No moving parts is the right number of moving parts - less chance of breaking. And it's easy to clean with a simple back flush. Get the full-size version not the mini as it's less prone to clogging up and has a faster flow rate. I use a large dromedary bags to hold the dirty water then hang it by a limb and let gravity do the filtering for us. Sawyer makes an inline adaptor that screws right onto the cap of the bag - https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Products-Inline-Hydration-Adapter/dp/B008JX0QP4.

Fast, Light and Works!
I love my Sawyer Squeeze. Out on the trail it works well and fast. I paired it up with a CNOC bag as those bags are easier to fill and more durable than the Sawyer bags, but the Sawyer filter makes water drinkable and safe.I just make sure in the colder months that I am carrying the filter with me on my body and put it into my sleeping bag at night (in a Ziploc). It is important to not let the filter freeze. My buddy was so impressed by it, he got back after a 4 day trek and got one of his own.
