This book gave me goosebumps, laughs, and heartfelt anecdotes of friendship. How she stages the big moments was brilliant and it's the highlight of this book. Mhairi is a magician!

Better the second time around. As usual Ms. McFarlane's word mastery along with her humor and ability to spin a tale are unequaled. The first time I read this book a year ago, I probably would have given it 3 stars. Then I'm not sure what happened I couldn't connect with the characters. This time around I really enjoyed the characters and their development. I will say that like Mhairi's name which she herself says is unnecessarily complicated, so was Roisin's. I had to Google its pronunciation and then every time it appeared I had to pause before pronouncing it. That took me out of the story a bit each time. Uncomplicated names I think in a story are best.

Usually when you find a fantastic book you want it to last as long as possible. I actually wanted this one to finish quickly so I could get other things done. Work, sleep, etc. I absolutely couldn’t put it down! I love all of Mhairi McFarlane’s books, her extremely witty writing and clever plots, but this one in particular touched me deeply and I will read it again as soon as I have had a few nights sleep and done a bit of work.

I took a while to get into this and fully get my head around the characters in the book. It was only really half way through I could sense the direction and decide on what I would want to happen. The read is a bit more of a struggle and less easy reading and comedic than previous novels by the same author - and the ending quite quick - but it still worth a read if you like her novels and still better then many others I’ve read.

The confidence that comes with the feeling of really belonging shines through in this book. The bonds of friendship and the importance of trust resound throughout. A totally enjoyable story.
