However, I m not a fan of Audio books and I was patiently waiting for kindle version. When I almost gave up on waiting and about to buy book, I saw this in KU.The Inadequate Heir is the third book of the Bridge Kingdom series but it debuts with new protagonist couples. We see a glimpse of them in “ The Traitor Queen” book. Keris and Zarraha belong to two different empires who hate each other. Keris is the crown prince of Maridrina. He is bookworm, avoids war, swords and is more a man of logic and intelligence. Zarraha is a General and raised as heir to an empire of Velcotta. She is a strong warrior who doesn’t hesitate to lift her blade. She is also an idealist.When a situation brings these two sworn enemies together, they fall for each other. Together, I really loved the two of them and the high-stakes politics that drove the plot of this novel. The plot was more intricate and it exceptionally drew my attention. Timelines and dialogues were perfectly matched with previous books along with good amount of political intrigue. It was so interesting to see the events of "The traitor queen" happening from Keris and Zarrahs perspective.Zarrah, as expected, was amazing. Honourable, brave, and loyal to a fault. Zarrah was someone I really came to respect and admire as the book progressed. Keris was sort of let – down for me. From his interactions in “The Traitor queen”, I thought of him as cleverer however, at times it felt like all his tactics were by-chance and not well thought.Plot might feel repetitive for people who have read “The traitor queen”, as the timelines are parallel. I absolutely loved the world building; it is so well done and I liked all the political schemes happening. Writing and narration was smooth. Relationship development was gradual and good. Secondary characters were amazing. I did like Yrina. Wish I could have gotten more of her.Overall, I did enjoy the book and loved the series. Can’t wait to see how their story will unfold after this huge cliff-hanger.

I've read this book twice now, and I enjoyed it immensely both times. The interaction between Keris and Zarrah is intriguing and draws you in. The scene where they discover their identities is just gut-wrenching. You truly feel for both of them and the crappy situation they are in, none of it their own doing but an accident of fate. I adore the banter between them. Keris is the best at delivering snark. I can picture his smirk in my mind every time he drops a line, and it makes me grin.There are some things going on the periphery that kind of make me sigh, and not in a good way, but they are so minor and the scenes with Keris and Zarrah together make me forget everything else. I also struggled a bit trying to picture the river gap where they would meet, but that is my malfunction, not because of the writing. Geometry was never my strong suit. Nor physics, apparently.All in all, this is a solid read, and the leads are superb characters. Highly recommend this book.

I didn't know if I was going to like this book as much as the previous 2 but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a great read. Lots of twists and turns. I didn't see the ending coming. I really liked Keris, more than I thought I would. Some parts a little bit repetitive because we had already read them in the previous book however, as these parts were from a different perspective it was ok. Highly recommend.

Esse livro era um dos que eu mais estava ansiosa pra esse ano, afinal a editora da autora lá fora só disponibiliza ele em ebook somente 6 meses depois do lançamento em áudio então imagine só o quanto eu tava surtada esperando desde novembro pra sair. Acho que nunca fiz resenha dos livros anteriores mais leiam desde o primeiro porque é incrível demais essa série.Aqui nessa história meio que é um outro ponto de vista dos acontecimentos do livro anterior The Traitor Queen, pois se passa na mesma linha temporal, aqui nos vamos conhecer o Keris e a Zarrah, eles apareceram brevemente no anterior mais desde o primeiro momento são personagens que me deixaram imensamente intrigada, pra começo de conversa eles pertencem a povos inimigos, que literalmente foram criados pra se odiar mais a forma que eles apareceram me deixou com a pulga bem grande atrás da orelha sobre eles. Então nesse livro realmente vamos entender como é o desenrolar da história deles.Keris Veliant é o filho homem mais velho e por isso herdeiro do Rei de Maridrina, consequentemente irmão da nossa protagonista Lara dos dois primeiros livros, ele é um personagem que desde o começo me deixa intrigada pois ao contrário dos outros personagens ele não é guerreiro, veja bem ele não é leigo a lutar e se defender quando precisa mais ele sempre opta digamos que pela paz, é um cara extremamente inteligente, amante dos livros, argumentador, sabe arquitetar planos muito bem feitos, e ele tem muito orgulho de sempre usar a mente invés da espada.Do outro lado temos Zarrah Anaphora criada também como herdeira e general do exército mais pela sua tia que é Imperatriz do povo de Valcotta, ela é astuta, leal, e ao contrário do Keris uma guerreira de cair o queixo, mais bem impulsiva e alguma atitudes dela me irritaram no começo devido a essa impulsividade dela.Enfim já deu pra entender que romance rola entre esses dois né hahaha, confesso que por mais curiosa que eu tivesse com a história deles não imaginei que fosse me apaixonar por eles de verdade, eles me encantaram com seus jeitos e personalidades muito distintas, mais que no fundo sonham com um único objetivo.Assim, desde o primeiro encontro o Keris fica intrigado pela a Zarrah invadindo seu território, ela é ousada, de um povo inimigo e enquanto ela assim como o resto do povo tem esse ódio exagerado contra o povo dele, ele não tá nem aí, ele acha incrivelmente estupido como seus governantes instigam essa guerra de séculos que ao ver dele precisa ter um fim. Então ele se encanta por ela, e sim a atração deles é puramente sexual no começo, mais acontecimentos vai acontecimentos vem eles formam um tipo de aliança, ele tentando mostrar pra ela que a guerra entre seus povos é mto sem futuro e que ele não tem intenção nenhuma de ser um participante dela, e ela lutando contra os ideias que ela cresceu acreditando, será mesmo que tudo tem que ser na base da vingança? Tem que ser olho por olho e dente por dente? Porque seus governantes nunca tentaram se entender de alguma forma e assim evitar que mais inocentes morram?Confesso que eu me apeguei muito fácil nesses personagens principalmente no Keris, ele é um cara que no fundo tem inúmeras inseguranças internas, sofri pela morte da mãe, tem sentimentos conflituosos a respeito da irmã, lida com um pai totalmente insano, mais nunca se deixa ser visto como vulnerável, mesmo o seu povo, seus soldados fazendo chacota do seu jeito mais intelectual do que guerreiro de ser, e quando ele se apaixona pela Zarrah, pra ele nada mais importa do que preservar esse amor, do que cuidar dela e protegê-la de tudo, até dela mesma, o que me levou sim a passar um paninho pra ele, a Zarrah tem um senso de justiça mto enraizado o que em parte é uma das coisas que mais gosto na sua personalidade, o quanto ela se preocupa com os inocentes, só que gera com que ela ache que pode abraçar o mundo com as pernas, que possa salvar a todos e o Keris mostra que não é bem assim, que precisa de planejamento, estratégia pra que juntos eles possam assumir seus papéis eai sim realizar o sonho deles de paz.Enfim não queria ter falado tanto mais é que eu realmente achei muito interessante o desenrolar dessa história, me apaixonei mesmo por esse casal, e tô mais ansiosa ainda pelo próximo pois o cliffhanger do final desse foi de deixar meu coração na mão, as revelações que tiveram só fez minha curiosidade por eles ainda maior. Então galerinha leiam, sério, vale muito a pena. Espero que esse casal conquiste vocês também como me conquistou! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

First, big congratulations to the narrators. I loved their performance, Especially Michael's performance. The way he made the laugh of the Magpie, sent chills down my arms!!! That man is crazy and Michael's performance is magnificent. Also, you can feel the grief and the anger in his voice when portraying Kerin's emotions. Summer is fantastic as Zarrah, but also when she has to change the tone in her voice to represent other women in communication with Zarrah.Now, about the book. I LOVE IT MORE THAN THE FIRST TWO! I love Lara and Aren's books, their story, and how they grow, but oh boy, do I love this book even more. Keris is magnificent. He hides in plain site and knows how to use his abilities to fight. He doesn't rely on strength, but also on his brain, which is a more powerful and dangerous weapon. He caught my attention in "The Traitor Queen", and when I finally read his story, wooow, simply woooow! The way his mind works and his growth from the beginning till the end of the book is absolute perfection. HE LOVES BOOKS, BOOKS ABOUT THE STARS! HOLY SWEET MOTHER ABOVE, I LOVE HIM EVEN MORE FOR THIS! (He has something from Rhysand in him:)))Zarrah is amazing. I absolutely loved her character growth from the girl, who went blindly with hate for the rival country, to the girl who understood that its people aren't to blame for the ruler's filth. I'm not sure I can blame her for her reaction when she learned who she had been intimate with, but I'm happy she saw past the name in the end. I really thought she was going to beat the crap out of Kerin with her staff :)))I love how the story is written, how it is interlaced with some key scenes from The Traitor Queen, and how the plot and the schemes are put into action. How our main characters met in the shadows and how they fought for each other when the other was in danger or about to be discovered for treason. AND THAT ENDING!!!!!Spectacular book. I loved every page of it. The audiobook is perfect.

Non mi stancherò mai di dire che i libri di Danielle L. Jensen sono ognuno dei piccoli capolavori, e ora che li ho letti praticamente tutti (sto conservando Tarnished Empire perché ora che esce il quarto di Dark Shores se ne passa sicuro un altro anno :)) posso riconfermare tutto quello che ho sempre pensato su di lei. Danielle Jensen è bravissima a scrivere fantasy, a tessere complicati intrighi politici, a creare personaggi belli, originali (insomma, chi ha mai visto un protagonista maschile di una serie fantasy bookish?!? - amo Keris), e anche se a volte i suoi libri presentano alcuni cliché, a noi lettori non ce ne importa, perché sono scritti benissimo e fangirliamo una pagina sì e l’altra pure.The inadequate heir riconferma tutto quello che ho sempre pensato di questa autrice, anzi. Con questo libro Danielle Jensen si è superata, scrivendo il capolavoro per eccellenza dell’enemies to lovers, un libro fantasy con i fiocchi a cui non riesco a trovare neanche un difetto.Ovviamente consiglio di leggere il libro dopo aver letto la prima duologia di The Bridge Kingdom, in particolare The inadequate heir è ambientato tra la fine di The Bridge Kingdom e tutto The Traitor Queen, raccontando ciò che succede nel frattempo alla Generale Zarrah Anaphora e al principe ereditario Keris Veliant (❤️❤️).E… davvero non ho niente da dire, se non che ho amato questo libro anche più di quanto mi aspettassi. Se siete fan del genere fantasy non potete non leggere i libri di questa autrice, che sia questa serie, la serie di Dark Shores (che secondo me è super sottovalutata), e anche la sua prima trilogia The Stolen Songbird, che pure si va un po’ perdendo nel terzo libro, però secondo me è una serie validissima e super originale.
