The Pillowman Review: This play destroyed me, and then rebuilt me, better than before. - I guess i did the reverse of "Burying the lead" there. ("Leading the bury?") This play is a piece of peerless brilliance. I'm buying it today, to read and memorise. I saw it twice (in the same, final day) at Stage West, in Fort Worth, Texas. I can tell that the brilliance of the play is more than the greatness of the cast/crew/director - and that is higher praise than i can generally allow myself to give. Emotional, hysterical, terrifying - to list the adjectives would break the spine of a dozen thesauri - and do no good whatsoever. Read it, or better yet - go see it, if possible. The change it made in me was a profound improvement. (Sorry if i lay the praise on thick, it is well earned.) I thank Mr. McDonagh, and the brilliant ensemble [ stagewest . org ] for the best day i've had in years. -Keith Hale- Review: A Great Play That Will Make You Think - There is one thing I hold true about theatre: a good play will entertain you, but a great play will make you think. "The Pillowman", in my opinion, is one of the greatest plays I have ever had the pleasure to both see and read. It will pull you in from scene 1 and won't let you go even long after the play as ended or you've reached the last page. Whether you're interested in reading a play or performing one, I suggest you look to this play first.

A Great Play That Will Make You Think

Modernized Stage Acting
The main reason I bought this play script was because of a great friend of mine. She had written a small piece inspired by this play for my entertainment, and upon reading her short story I wanted to know what had caused such a good, dark piece. And upon reading "The Pillowman" I could understand why. It is a country ruled by a totalitarianism government, where rights are something that no longer exist. The scenes, stories, themes, and characters are dark and twisted, the world turned upside down and overall disturbing. It doesn't take long to read, though now I wish I was able to see it acted out, it would be beautiful. I loved this play, and I've read it over and over since obtaining it.

Dark humor.
A story that draws you into the multiple dimensions of each character. Just when you think you have it figured out...turn the page and the mystery begins again. Layers and loops that's a joy to read several times.

Almost What I Ordered
This is indeed a copy of the Pillow Man play, however the one I received has a plain orange cover, unlike the orange cover with the black drawing of a face on it as listed in the Amazon listing. Not the end of the world but the picture should accurately reflect what we are receiving

Excellent
The play The Pillowman is a story about a writer who is being interrogated; his dark works are inspiring real murders. The characters are well-written and the story follows a good pace. This play is bleak but the ending is very good and I think fans of drama will enjoy and appreciate this truly original work.

creepy and wonderful
Funny, creepy, and totally awesome. If you love dark fairy tales, you'll love this. Warning: dark humor. If you don't find the death of children funny in any regard (that includes the darker aspects of Cinderella's original tale) than don't pick this up.

Strange, disturbing, but ultimately a very great drama. I would love to see it on stage. Not for small children!

I say I love it but that's not really how you would describe it. Love it in the sense that it is well written and even though the subject matter is quite hard to swallow it was a fascinating read. Recommend second reading though as the first time around you get caught up in murders of the children by the storyteller (won't give anything away) so on second reading you start to question Katurian's motives for writing such horrific stories, somehow reminding me of Grimms fairy tales. A must read

The Pillowman is interesting but indeed a darker play. I was sad after my first read. . . . Though, I am stunned by the imaginative skills of the writer. . . . I am amazed by the writer's love for his brother. . . . Can your love for someone impose a death penalty on the loved one? . . . Is torture the only fuel to ignite creativity . . . Are geniuses inborn or made out of circumstances? . . . Why is love not for all? It should be for all on the compassionate basis. . . . Too many questions for which I have no answers. . . . The Pillowman is worth reading. It flashes light on darker society which is openly hidden amongst us.
