To the limit of conquest...
This new Osprey Campaign series book documents Alexander the Great's last campaign, at the gates of India in 326 B.C. Author Nic Fields takes his time getting there, assessing Alexander's background as a king and as a battlefield leader. The final battle is as well documented as the passage of time permits. The text explores how Alexander reached India after audacious campaigns that conquered the Persian Empire and Egypt. The training, weapons, and tactics of the Greek Army are shown to be essential to Alexander's success. That army performed in a masterful fashion on the banks of the Hydaspes. A victorious Alexander turned back, not because there were no more worlds to conquer, but because his army refused to go further. The text includes lots of maps and period and modern illustrations. Well recommended to students of the warfare of the period.
