Live At Pompeii

I've owned this since it came out. The production, the performance, the musicianship, the audio, the video, the camera work - all best of the best by the best. IMHO, one of the greatest concert performances to be captured on video. I have spent years assembling a reference level system in my home. This Blu ray will get me as close to Pompeii as I'll ever get. Mr. Gilmour, you are a treasure.

This is just as good as Remember That Night. The sound and video quality are very significantly better with Pompeii. If you liked RTN, you'll definitely want this. My favorite new performances are: Run Like Hell, Sorrow, 5 A.M., One of These Days, In Any Tongue, A Boat Lies Waiting. I saw this concert a couple times at a movie theater and the sound was absolutely stunning. I was in the second row and I felt as if I were on the stage. It was better than actually being at any live concert I can remember. So I had low expectations for the Blu-Ray. The sound is great on the Blu-Ray - really crisp. But it's not the same experience as being enveloped by the Dolby system at the theater. The acoustic guitar and keyboards fit in great with the 5.1. And the bass is at a perfect level (contrary to what other reviewers said). Check your speaker levels. The audio is mixed perfectly, both 5.1 and stereo. It doesn't make sense to compare the video with RTN because RTN was going for a film look. If you go back and watch the P.U.L.S.E. concert from the 90's, I think you'll agree that David Gilmour has gotten even better with age, like a fine wine. Remarkable. Can he do this when he's 80 and still show refinement of his art? Probably. The other musicians were excellent too. The drumming and bass were as solid as they were in RTN, which as pretty darn solid. The new backup guitar player and keyboard players were at least as good as from RTN (big shoes to fill after the death of Rick Wright), and they benefitted from a much better recording and mix. It's now difficult to watch my other Blu-Ray concerts. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds at Radio City is the only one with comparable sound quality, though I believe Pompeii now nudges out the top spot. I convert my Blu-Rays to stereo audio for listening with headphones. The stereo mix on the Blu-Ray is excellent, though I'd say that the mixed-down uncompressed 5.1 to stereo might be a little better. Normally 5.1 mixes are not this good.

As a lifelong Pink Floyd fan, and David Gilmour in particular, I just had to get this. I saw a few video clips online and it looked like I would enjoy it. Well I not only enjoyed it, I was enthralled... blown away... overcome with joy at seeing this performance. I've always loved David's distinct sound - I mean, it really only takes about three notes for you to say that's David Gilmour. Having recently started to learn guitar, I have an even greater appreciation for his music. Back to the concert... the BluRay audio and video quality is stunning. I'd have to say this would rank in the top three of the concert videos I own from a technical perspective. And the musical performance is fantastic - the concert is about 2 1/2 hours long, and includes roughly a 50/50 mix of Floyd and solo material. The BluRay also comes with a color booklet, about 20 pages long, of concert photos and daytime shots at Pompeii. This is a must-have for anyone who enjoys a good concert. But if you haven't discovered David Gilmour or Floyd by now: a) I'm sad for you that this has not been a part of your life experience. b) You may want to pass on buying this BluRay because after watching it you'll be wanting to spend a whole lot more money expanding your music collection to include these musical geniuses.

First and foremost, I want to say my wife and I are diehard Floyd and Gilmour fans. Everyone who knows me knows Floyd/Gilmour is my “go to” music, “anytime’. In March 2016, we traveled to the Hollywood Bowl and LA Forum from Seattle to watch the Craftsman perform all three shows. I was and am hoping the Hollywood Bowl shows are released sometime. As some of the pics below show, they were unique shows. We saw the movie at the one night only Sept 13th showing (by the way I won a movie poster at a silent auction. Now framed and hanging on my wall). I was somewhat disappointed because it did not show the entire show. I am a stickler for set lists and was somewhat dismayed when some songs were omitted or played out of order. That being said, I received the CD and video of David Gilmour’s Live at Pompeii the day of release. Just tonight, we watched the Blue Ray. OK, WOW! I felt like I was there. Although; I would have donated a kidney to be there those nights, I actually felt like I was in the crowd. The mix, was good but as one reviewer pointed out the bass was somewhat missing. I hardly noticed because of the mix of the other instruments. I noticed as another reviewer pointed out, the subtleties of catching certain notes on the mix. Very impressive to catch those. In all, MW is right. It’s not Pink Floyd at Pompeii. It’s a musician who had the honor and privilege to play in the Pompeii arena, not once but twice and the first since the Gladiators to perform in front of an audience. Nor is it Remember That Night. On that tour, David played with his long time friend, Rick Wright. And above all else it’s not PULSE. All directed by different people at different times. I have all of David’s and Floyd’s videos and still enjoy them very much. So, come on Haters, give people a chance. Give David Gilmour Live At Pompeii a chance. He is in the twilight of his career. As all know by now, we Lost Tom Petty yesterday. I had the privilege to see him perform just once in my life this last summer and consider myself lucky. I have seen David with Floyd once and four times on solo tours and consider myself Honored. Watch both Live At Pompeii and Remember That Night. Yes David is a decade older between the two but aren’t we all one day older every morning? Don’t judge, pour a beverage or three, dim the lights, turn it up to 11 and just sit back. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I'm a big Pink Floyd fan, but I probably wouldn't have bought this if it weren't for my wife - she likes Gilmour's solo work as much as I like Floyd. So this Blu-ray was a perfect Christmas present for her, and on New Year's Eve we settled in with a bottle of champagne, a big screen TV and a surround-sound system and watched it. The pros: Great picture and sound quality. The surround sound is well done, making you feel like you're at the concert. It's also used creatively for the menus and end credit music. It's also neat to see Gilmour playing again at the site of the Floyd's "Live in Pompeii" movie, and the Blu-ray includes a short documentary about Gilmour's return to the city. The light show that accompanies the concert is occasionally impressive (reaching its peak with a laser freakout during Run Like Hell), but for the most part it's just tasteful colored lights shining down from the rim of the coliseum. There are just enough "rare" songs in the set list to make the purchase worthwhile to fans who already own other Gilmour/Floyd videos, like A Boat Lies Waiting, Fat Old Sun and Sorrow. The band, while it doesn't contain any other members of Pink Floyd, is serviceable and includes the unexpected choice of a male backing vocalist in amongst the usual female singers. The cons: Overall the set list, particularly the first set, leans a little too heavily on the same Pink Floyd songs we've all heard dozens of versions of already (One of These Days, Money, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Run Like Hell, Comfortably Numb, etc). There's also too much material from The Division Bell and Rattle That Lock for my tastes (I'm not a big fan of either album). My wife on the other hand likes both those albums, so she'd probably list that as a pro. Her complaint is that he didn't do anything from his self-titled first solo album or About Face. All in all the disc made for a pleasant evening's viewing, but I doubt I'll watch it again. If I want to see Gilmour at Pompeii, I'll watch the original Floyd movie.

First of all - it’s pretty and shot well, but could use less editing/cutting - it needs to stop jumping around from angle to angle and maybe linger on the current musical performer that has the lead or solo or a hot lick The sound is just stunning - we listen in 2.1 on our patio - and I don’t mean weak speakers… big sub and d’Appolito mains from a really nice Atlantic Technology line. Not having walls to reflect back just makes the performance shine and the recording is not muddied by the room (we aren’t in a room - and the venue is not either)

Absolutely fantastic to see Pink Floyd's spectacular "guitartist "go back and perform for a arena filled with a blessed crowd to witness this volcanic event!!A lot of classic Floyd and David's solo music on this show.To me it seems he actually gets revved up as the show goes on.One great Blu-ray with really great camera work capturing all the lights, colors and sound from an amazing David Gilmour and the ensemble of great musicians he has to join him on stage.Whether you're a Floyd or Gilmour fan this show will satisfy you immensely!!

This was absolutely magnificent. Everything about this incredible concert was remarkable and left my husband and I in complete awe! It gave me goosebumps and moved me to tears. A must have, not just for David Gilmour/Pink Floyd fans but for any music lover who truly appreciates talent at its best. One has to see this for oneself to even grasp just how brilliant Mr. Gilmour Is along with many amazingly talented artists. A truly unfathomable audio and visual experience! I have been a huge fan of David Gilmour and Pink Floyd for almost 50 years! This performance has given me a deeper appreciation and respect for Mr. Gilmour as a legendary writer, singer, guitarist and producer. He continues to deeply move and inspire so many, especially me! He is by far one of the greatest of all time! 💓

85” 4K TV, OPPO bluray, Bose 5 speaker system - IT WAS JUST LIKE I WAS AT POMPEII, unbelievable DVD. One of the greatest guitarists of our time.

Espectacular, imagen de calidad ya que originalmente fue grabado en 4k, sonido increible incluso con los altavoces de una tv de gama media, no digo ya como tiene que sonar en un buen equipo de sonido. Un setlist precioso de principio a fin en el que ninguna cancion parece de relleno, culminando con una gran version de comfortably numb y un largo solo de los que solo Mr Gilmour sabe interpretar. Por ponerle alguna pega, la edicion es en formato digipack pero al menos trae la bandeja de disco para que no se dañe por lo demas lo recomendaria a cualquier fan del buen rock no solo de pink floyd si no ya en general. 10/10

Trudno opisać. Jak ktoś jest fanem Davida i Pink Floyd to na pewno tą pozycję musi mieć. Sceneria koncertu, jakość dźwięku, obraz. Dla mnie super.
