Great Focus knob for small camera build
I needed a compact follow focus to use with my BMD Micro Studio 4K G2 rig build and this Tilta model seemed to meet all my requirements. When it arrived I was very impressed with the case that was included as I was not expecting one. It holds all of the parts firmly in place and provides great protection and easy storage for the parts. Upon removing the focus knob from the case I was impressed with the overall build quality. It was the perfect size for my cage rig and slid right onto the 15mm side rod with ease. The mount is easy to lock down and holds the gear firmly against the lens without slipping. The focus gear is a perfect fit for my Meike MFT Cine Prime lenses and provides very smooth focus adjustment. The stops on the knob are perfect for setting the outer bounds of the focus range. And because of its compact size the focus knob is easy to access without being bulky and getting in the way of other accessories.

Incredibly well made with smooth responsiveness
Having used a highly inferior version from a shoulder rig kit I’d gotten, I just assumed all of these were a pain to use if you were swapping out lenses or needing to change the rig setup. This product changed my mind. The wheel turn is smooth without excessive drag or wobble. The innovative latching system allows me to swivel the gear away from the lens without changing the clamping force on my rig. No need for hex key tools is such a game changer when making quick changes on set. Love this product.

A Solid, Reliable Focus Solution
This is my trusty backup focus system. I prefer the Tilta Nano 2 for the remote operation, but you can’t beat the simple reliability of this well-built, well-designed focus system. It’s also priced really well. It’s easy to install and easy to use. If reliability is important to you, this is for you.

Very Impressively Smooth and Precise
Very impressive. Smooth as glass. The design of the focus mark stops is quite good. The gear ratio is reasonably good, enabling far more precision than grabbing the lens. I would like to have the option of a smaller gear to shift the ratio even higher. I tried the Nitz FF, but found the Tilta better. Recommended.

Works great with new GoPro mission ILS camera
Just received and tested and it works very smoothly and makes my creations of videos a whole lot easier for the new GoPro mission 1 pro ISL and it is life changing now that I have this as a setup for my new GoPro ISL I can’t wait to use it this weekend for my kids football games.

Double Achilles Heel could be game-breaking for you!
Right off the jump TWO THINGS a professional operator curious about this focus system should know: 1.) When bottom mounted, and regardless of which side the gear is placed on the unit body (as it's reversible, unlike SmallRig's version!), the focus pull will be inverted! Instead of rolling the wheel "away" from your body to focus on a subject further away, it pulls the focus back in! Likewise, when focusing on something close, you must roll the wheel away from yourself, instead of the correct toward yourself. To me, this is gamebreaking. It contradicts years of muscle memory and also logic. It is obvious this was engineered on that coin flip and decided that it would manufactured to be in an overhead position for logical directionality. If this fact matters to you, you don't have much reason to read number two because you shouldn't purchase this item. Nobody catches a fish and says, "all right now reel it out!" Imagine using a car where the blinker orientation is reversed. Right, nope. But suppose you say, well that's no big deal because I would rig it to come from the top side. Then there is one more crucial thing you should know about, and it's something where Tilta have engineered themselves into a corner they cannot escape: 2.) This Focus Puller only supports a 43-tooth gear or smaller! This shortcoming will be very apparent on a cinema lens, which has more than a 360° throw on the focus barrel. The ratio is simply too small to turn all of that focus in a desirable manner. But OK, let's just throw a 65-Tooth gear on there. Tried it: the engineers literally did not allow enough lateral space for a larger gear to fit with clearance! I simply couldn't believe it, the oversight. Nor is there anywhere to be found an official Tilta 65-T gear. The deliberateness of this is so strange because right down the street, our friends at Nitze not only make a follow focus that rolls in the proper direction when mounted underneath, but also features the common courtesy to include three different gears in the package! Wouldn't you know it, the 65-T on the Nitze is a beautiful match for the Siriu Nightwalker focus barrel. (There is still trouble in paradise however, as the Nitze's wheel throw is outrageously, nearly un-usably stiff!) This Tilta wheel only comes with the single 43-T, and it's not enough. If neither of my issues matter to you, here's what I love about this Tilta unit: The throw on this is Pitch Perfect. It doesn't feel too loose and it certainly doesn't feel too tight. Titla nailed the drag factor! The focus marker pins easily lock into place or easily get out of the way, and the metal bracket that clicks in and out as a focus stopper is the premier iteration of how this should work, regardless of who manufacturers the follow focus! For example, the Achilles heel on the Nitze version is that those dingbats are last-gen and their focus stopper is locked in place, and uses some wasteful double wheel design, where you are required to either screw the little things in or take them out altogether, and I absolutely hate that about it. In summary, if it were not required to be mounted overhead for proper wheel direction, and if there were enough lateral space for a larger 65-T gear to fit a proper cinema lens, and Tilta also included that larger gearing in the box (where it belongs) we would have a five out of five product. In my opinion, there exists no seminal iteration of a follow focus from anyone. Not yet anyway. Each have some crucial drawback. I hope they read this and update their product. Unfortunately this focus needs to be re-engineered to meet those standards!

One of the best manual follow focus.
Work perfectly as a hard stopper for DJI Lidar AF lens calibration. The dial is smooth with two adjustable stoppers. It's light weight and compact. It's a bit pricey though.
