Love!
After reviewing so many shredders and seeing so many bad reviews no none sounded like it would work for me. Than I say back and thought awhile, all I needed was one like what I had but in a bigger size. I had a small Fellowes for years, that I purchased from a second hand store that sold almost new products. It is mini and shreds papers and normal credit cards (not the thick metal ones) but I had to rip 8x11 sheets in half because the mouth was small. And It got hot because it was small and could not handle that amount at one time, but after a while it cooled down and I could continue my use. It grinded the paper to small pieces, cross cutting. I have had it for years and still do, but now I needed a regular size one that worked just as good. So after much research I typed in the name of the small one and saw this one. To my surprise is is better than the small one. Not only does it take the large papers, credit cards and shred into small pieces, but it's quiet (I can shred when people are sleep) and it has a safety lock so I don't have to unplug. I use to unplug my old one for the safety of kids and pets. Online it showed For some reason, some pets have gotten their tongue into shredders. This one allows me to turn off and lock. Also because it breaks the pieces down into such small pieces, I don't have to dump often. 💙 Had for two months, so far so good!

surprisingly good
Summary:A highly dependable micro-shredder, surprisingly good considering the price. It may not be perfect, but it is great for more typical individual use. It is a bit louder than my last shredder that cost 3-4x as much, but not horrendous for a shredder. I can highly recommend this shredder.UPDATE 8 Months later (Oct 2020)Came back to answer a question and thought I should update. The shredder has NEVER jammed in the past 8 months and continues to function as described in my initial review, without any problems. This is a solid choiceDetails:I purchased this after the death of my prior Fellowes micro-set paper shredder. That one was an M450, which cost about $200 when I bought it a number of years ago. I had about 10 filing boxes of paper to shred, and after 6 boxes the plastic bits between the shredding teeth broke and it basically ate itself (despite maintenance and oil application per Fellowes recommendations). With 4 more boxes to go (about 40 reams of paper) I decided to try this much less expensive version- if it died quickly as I expected I would know I really needed the big (expensive) version. Frankly I hoped it would die near the end of the job, so I could get one more similar to my old one- there are a few things I don't think are great about this shredded (but performance in shredding has been great)I have now run through the 4 file boxes and this shredder continues to run strong, much to my surprise. In all that time it has never jammed once, despite multiple mis-fed papers (in my rush to shred i sometimes catch the corner of a page and it goes through diagonally). While it may technically be rated for 8 sheets of paper, it seems to really start to strain with 4+ sheets- it starts out going with the shredding rollers moving quite fast (and relatively loud and high-pitched) and slows down a great deal (and the pitch is deeper). However, it continues to grind through up to 8 sheets without stopping. I have found with 2 sheets it can shred virtually at top speed, 3 sheets seems to be a pretty happy number, and 4 sheets is where it begins to slow. Running 2-3 sheets at a time almost continuously (I let the rollers begin to speed up prior to adding more) I can fill the bucket at least twice before it shuts down for 'overheat'. Frankly it does pretty well and I don't believe any of these page claims for shredders are terribly realistic.what I like:1. it is compact2. it never jams, and shreds a fair amount before 'overheat'3. relatively inexpensive4. dependable- it has already shredded more paper than I expected it would5. Micro-shreds: the cut paper is quite small, which allows it to be compacted and is more securethe things i don't really care for:1. the window in the bucket is very dark, which makes it impossible to see how full the bin is getting. No sense having a window if you cannot see through it.2. the shredder sits directly on top of the bin (as opposed to the 'drawer' concept on my prior shredder). This makes emptying the shredder more complicated, in that you need to move the shredding mechanism, set it somewhere, empty the bucket and replace the shredding mechanism. For light use, this is only a minor inconvenience, but i find it more annoying than I anticipated (next time I will buy the other design). This was a poor decision on my part, not a flaw of the shredder, but something a prospective buyer should consider.3. This shredder has the same plastic spacers between the shredding teeth that failed in my proper shredder. That said, my last shredder lasted for about 8 years, and the design seems to have been improved since this one has never jammed.4. it is a bit louder than my last one, and sounds like it is really revving up once the current sheets of paper clearOverall, this is proving to be a highly dependable micro-shredder, surprisingly good considering the price. It may not be perfect, but it is great for more typical individual use. It is a bit louder than my last shredder that cost 3-4x as much, but not horrendous for a shredder. I can highly recommend this shredder.

Great value for your money!
I like this paper shredder. I'm thoroughly pleased with this product. When it came to the house, I realized it's smaller than I had thought. But, good things come in small packages! It's quiet, it shreds paper into fine pieces so small that they could be used for confetti! You can even shred old credit cards with it. You can shred up to eight pieces of paper at any given time. The product does shut off after about 7 minutes if you're using a continuously. One thing you have to understand is after each time you shred a document, the product continues shredding for about 15 seconds after. This is because it's clearing out the paper feed . This extra activity would contribute to the motor overheating because it's running longer. This is okay because it's a good thing. I use it for junk mail and incessant credit applications that are sent to the house. The trick here is to shred things before they pile up into an insurmountable paper tiger. If you let the paperwork pile up, just be prepared to shred in short bursts. Give the shredder breaks in between to cool down. If you don't, it will shut off for about a half hour. I think it's a durable product and will last for a very long time. I can't say enough good things about this product.

Works great for my needs
Very good shredder. I've had the Fellowes Powershred 8MC5 8-Sheet Micro-Cut Shredder for almost a year now and everything works perfectly. I have shredded 8 sheets of paper together and that worked fine (even shredded 10 okay!), I have shredded credit cards down the middle where indicated and that works fine also. I even tried shredding a few papers with staples left in them and they went through the shredding fine also. Also easy to shred very thin items like cashier receipts by doubling them over or just inserting them along with a regular piece of paper. (Definitely not DVDs however!) And there's only a low noise level while shredding. Emptying is easy, no problem there. I get my shredding organized beforehand so I've never gone beyond the 5-minute continuous run time when it shuts off on its own for a cooldown. If I'm organized beforehand, I can shred a ton in 5 minutes! So it's great for my home office needs..

Love it!
I love this shredder. Pieces come out super small and this thing is a powerhouse! Had a couple of boxes of documents I scanned and then shredded. This thing works like a charm! I did purchase some shredder oil and applied oil in between each basket full of paper. Hope to keep it for a long time!

Bad product bad service!
Could not use after shredding third single piece of paper. Contacted the supplier but no response. Asked the manufacturer but said it's third party supplier responsibility. Buy at your own risk. Really bad product and bad service!!

Excellent cross cut
Liked the cross cut. Excellent for shredding sensitive personal documents, bills, receipts… stopped shredding for 30 minutes and continued shredding. Pleased with performance.

Maravillosa
No se atora, tritura todo súper bien, y aunque se calienta, en 30 min ya está lista para volver a empezar. Excelente compra!
