works straight out of the package when you add your own batteries
This remote came with a LOT of supported devices and how to program the remote for the various devices, but I thought - TRY IT and VOILA straight out of the packaging, once I had added my own 2 AA batteries, the remote worked instantaneously with my TVs! EASY PEASY! Now I have two of these remotes. I have two TVs, a Samsung 2023 and a Samsung 2024.The remote is very lightweight, in fact adding the batteries almost doubles the weight, it is that light. The buttons are raised nicely, so I might even let my weak, essential tremor in arm/hand mom use this, since she has killed some buttons in our other, older remotes (which is why I needed some replacements). These buttons do not light up, so the remote's 2 AA batteries should last a long time. I love that it uses normal batteries, as when it runs out it is nice to have compatible batteries on hand. If you have the factory provided remote that is supplied by Samsung, which is an evil to use device, this remote does lack some of those custom other buttons, but those aren't things we/I regularly use anyhow. It is nice that something works just as expected! Simple is wonderful! I love this!!In case Amazon mixes my remote with other remote reviews (which seems to be going on...), this is my remote's description:GE Big Button Universal Remote Control for Samsung, Vizio, Lg, Sony, Sharp, Roku, Apple TV, TCL, Panasonic, Smart TVs, Streaming Players, Blu-Ray, DVD, 2-Device, Silver, 33701I hope my review helps someone else.

Best Universal for Samsung TV with Spectrum cable box!
I have a Samsung TV and Spectrum cable box. This remote worked right out of the box, without any need for programming. Love that it has just the basic buttons. Got this for my elderly father who is confused by the standard remote that has about 50 buttons on it. Quality seems sturdy too. Great remote!

Works Well
The offset back (bottom larger than the top) is a nice feature when watching TV in the dark. Previous remotes I have owned, that are symmetrical on the back, makes it difficult to tell if the remote is oriented correctly. The large buttons for volume and channel changing might be a touch too large, even for a guy with a 10" hand span. Might be difficult to navigate for someone with a small hand.Otherwise, the buttons have a good feel to them and the overall quality seems good, especially for the bargain price.

Simple for Elder Use
It's been working well for a few years. Pretty simple for an elder to use....that's why I got it for my mom. Pretty simple to program as well.

Good for TV tuner channels, but didn't work with my cable
This is a manually entered code pairing device where you enter a number provided on a list to pair with your device. It paired quickly with both a Samsung and Philips TV, but there it stopped. It was purchased to go with a MediaCom Cable Box which also just has channel numbers that need to be selected but it wouldn't pair with the newly installed box.It will not work with any format such as some streaming services where you need to navigate the screen with arrows. There aren't any on this device. It was purchased to make navigating the Mediacom box easier, but since it wouldn't pair, it couldn't be used.3 stars

Great for elderly
Great for my elderly parent. Easier than complex busy remotes. Bright color easy to find a little bigger for arthritic hands

Great for those with difficulty seeing small buttons, not so great with Xfinity
I bought this for my elderly neighbor who was having trouble seeing the buttons on her Xfinity remotes and who found the Xfinity remote complicated. She loved this remote and found it to be much easier and less complicated to use. However, if you have Xfinity, a couple of things to know:1. I would not recommend using with an X1 box with a voice remote as it does not have an enter button. So when inputting the desired channel number, you won't be able to actually go to that channel because there is no enter button.2. While it can control a cable box and a TV, you must press the TV button before being able to turn the TV on or off or adjust the volume. Then you must press the CABLE button before you can change the channel or input the channel numbers. These two downsides made it more difficult for my neighbor who is not technology savvy. She found it stressful to try to remember the order of the buttons to make her TV work they way she wanted. She still prefers it over the standard Xfinity remote which is much more complicated.
