Drum Workshop DWSM2158 Three Position Butt Plate, Chrome

This is the coolest butt plate on the market. I have installed these on many of my snare drums. I really wish they’d make the mounting screw holes adjustable to retrofit to other drums without having to drill holes! (A slot-type design would be great). Industrious drummers can drill and tap new holes into this butt where needed (that’s what I’ve done) and it’s well worth it. I find that I really miss the functionality of this part when I’m playing a drum without one! As with all DW parts, the design is awesome and it’s extremely well-made. The chrome is excellent and the lever works very smoothly. My only complaint (and it’s a small one) is that the “loose” setting seems to be TOO loose as compared to the “normal” and “tight” settings. It would be awesome if there would be some sort of small set-screw to adjust this setting. I did a low-tech fix and put in a shim of thick Gorilla Tape under the pivoting section to tighten the loose setting just a bit, which works fine. Overall, an amazing product that I believe you will find you can’t live without!

These butt plates are great! To be able to tighten or loosen the snare wires with one quick switch of a lever is wonderful! And another switch back to where you began is great. Counting clicks on a throw off and adjustable butt plate (if you have one) isn’t easy during a gig! This simplifies that adjustment especially if you need to in the middle of a song. I put this on every snare drum I have except the ones with the adjustable butt plate. I love them!!

I keep adding these to different DW and Pdp snares and are super cool. You get a wet sound, tighter sound and really tight like a piccolo snare. Like have 3 snares in one with the flick of a lever

I absolutely love the functionality of these butt plates. They are a little bulky compared to a plain old but plate. Considering how well it works at allowing you to make 3 incremental adjustments to your snare wires at the flick of a lever it is well worth the extra bulk. Not only that but these are very well made and have a feel and heft of a quality piece. If you need a butt plate for your snare, look no further!

This 3 Position Butt Plate fits the DW Design Series Snares just fine with no other alterations needed. Great upgrade and well worth it!

If you play cover tunes in a band, this will change the way your drum sounds to suit the sound of the song your playing. Play something funky? , just flip it to the tight setting. Play an old rock ballad? flip it to the loose detent and get that big fat sound. The only problem I have with this butt is the screw holes never seem to match up with the existing holes. The good thing is the holes are usually pretty close and the bracket that holds it on just about covers the old ones. you'd have to look pretty close to find them. I currently have this butt on four of my snare drums and love them all.

I added this to my performance series 14" snare. I had to open up the mounting holes very slightly on my drum shell to get the screws to thread into the Butt Place Correctly. The fit and finish of this hardware is 100% and very typical to DW quality standards. The kit comes with various length screws for those of you with thicker drum shells. Awesome innovation and as with most things inventive. Once you have it. You will always need it.

I really enjoy the options this allows on a standard snare. The only thing I dislike about the product is that it has some slack side to side in the moving section. The leads to slightly of set snares. I would purchase again besides that.

I put this DW 3P butt plate on my DW Design series maple snare drum. It would fit any snare drum where the holes for the but plate are 55mm apart. The DWSM2158 package includes a range of Phillips screws of different lengths to cover metal shell snare drums, standard wood shells and even thick solid or staved shells. For DW fans this means you can transform your Design or Performance series snares to Collectors series specs. In user's terms it means you can change your snare sound in the middle of a song at the flick of a switch. Sadly this may not fit older model Collectors series models but it is applicable to all models with Mag throw-offs. Adding this to your snare may also mean you might need a slightly bigger snare drum case to accommodate the extra width of your upgraded drum. However, as far as I'm concerned, its musical applications outweigh any minor setbacks. Highly recommended.
