Director Eric Brevig's adaptation of the classic Jules Verne adventure story is the first live-action feature to be shot in digital 3-D. His scientific theories rubbished by his eminent colleagues, Professor Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser) sets off on a backpacking trip to Iceland to get away from it all with his nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson) and local guide Hannah (Anita Briem). Stumbling across a previously unknown cave system, the explorers soon find themselves journeying deeper and deeper into the earth's core, on a rollercoaster ride into an unknown world populated by man-eating plants, lava lakes, and some seriously hungry dinosaurs.

BRENDAN FRASER'S "JOURNEY" DVD
For once the blurb on the reverse of the DVD sleeve is right! "The Family Fantasy Film of the Year 10 out of 10 " Released in 2008 this is just what it says - An excellent adventure/fantasy, suitable for all the family but containing enough thrills, spills and danger to satisfy young and old(er) brains. The CGI is spectacular without being overwhelming, and the plot, whilst basically Jules Verne, is bang up to date, and doesn't suffer for it. One of the things I liked were the three characters _ Fraser not quite the scientist/professor, but excellent. Josh Hutchison as his nephew (when we forst meet him he is a sulky uncomunicative 13 year old, but very quickly becomes a very likeable 13 year old.). As for Icelandic actress Anita Briem....If you are going to be trapped at the Centre of the Earth....! No need to describe the plot (I hope) - just lets say the film rips along at a great pace for 90 mins. The DVD is excellent (In my package I got a 3D version with glasses, I watched the 2D). Great picture, sound an subtitles. Extras not seen by me. If you feel like a genuinly unpretentios adventure for all the family - this is it!

Excellent family fun!!!
I felt I must write a review for this title because it doesn't deserve so many bad reviews. I bought this as christmas present for our young children and decided to watch it with my husband last night. It had us both ducking out of the way of the various 3D objects/animals lurching at us from the screen! The 3D works very, very well. It isn't perfect. There is a slight 'ghost' effect and the colour is obviously affected by the glasses but I think this is as good as it could ever be for home viewing. The 3D aside though, the film isn't as good as it could be, it felt as though it was rushed towards the end. Silly plot, cheesy acting in parts, but so what? It IS a kids film! (Though I would have liked a few more creatures in there.) But the 3D does make it worth while. And If my husband and I where impressed, our kids are going to be amazed! (knowing that they have never seen a 3D film before). My only serious complaint is that this Region 2 disc only comes with 2 sets of glasses, while the Region 1 disc comes with 4. Had I known this before purchase, I would have looked elsewhere for the Region 1 version because, of course, only 2 people can watch it at once. If anyone knows where I could buy more 3D magenta/green glasses, I love to hear from you! :-) All in all, a fantastic bit of fun for the family! As long as there is only 2 people in your family...

Review is for the 3d.
My review is based on the print of this Blu ray 3d release. The Image is fantastic and detailed with a beefy 5.1 dts-hd soundtrack. The cinematographer has put a lot of thought into this movie for 3d. It mixes excellent depth with plenty of screen popping moments that utilise the format perfectly. Many shots, props, sets and the casts actions are composed to take advantage. The technicalities of the 3d production and sound design are what get this mediocre family adventure across the finish line. It wouldn't be worth your time In 2d even though it has the ever loveable Brendan Fraser staring.5 ⭐ for 3D.2.5 ⭐ for the movie.

watched in 2D
I can't say how this was in 3D - I'm sure it was magnificent - but a 3D really should be able to hold itself in 2D as well - this one didn't, not entirely anway.I did enjoy it, mainly because I love the concept and I love anything Jules Verne (what an imagination!). The acting by the two adults thought was, I thought, mediocre and there was absolutely no chemistry between the two.The CGI was okay, I've seen a lot better, but overall they were enjoyable. I think some of the scenes could have been shortened and others lengthened - the scriptwriters and editor didn't get the pace right at all.The best thing about this film though was the performance by young actor Josh Hutcherson he simply stole it. He is an extremely natural and talented actor who the adults in this would do well to study. He emotes effortlessly and gives a superb performance in everything I have seen him in.Overall it is an enjoyable romp but I think maybe this is better as a 3D experience from what I have heard.

Great movie
I really enjoyed watching this film in 3D. It is a shame you only get two pairs of glasses, you should really get four. And wish they had been better made (eg plastic and not card).Anyway, really enjoyed the film and watching it in 3D is a whole new experience. The 3D effects are really good, and of course will depend on the size of the screen you are watching it on. Yes, the colour isn't really there when you are watching the 3D version, but the 2D version is also on the disc.Don't know about anyone else, but I was seeing green and red for about five minutes after I took the glasses off!Would recommend getting this film, and as more films are coming out in 3D hopefully they will start bringing out better quality glasses.

This film is purely an adventure/action film!
It takes you on quite the adventure into the centre of the Earth. This film was intended to be in 3D but I, alas, only saw it in 2D. So there are some shots/scenes that don’t make much sense in 2D. I found the action to progress quite rapidly and the underground world they discovered is magical. Some of the action sequences were beyond believable – but I think that’s where the excitement is fun comes from. I did however, found it a little annoying that the film repeatedly relied upon the deus ex machina device (which is a plot device used when a seemingly impossible conflict is solved by an unexpected person or event).I’m not sure if Brandon Fraser was right for the role – as he seemed a bit too young and not overly believable as a learned geology professor. The female support was a bit older than the book as Josh Hutcherson’s character was to fall in love with her. But he still had a crush on her. Speaking of which – how cute was Josh as a kid?All in all – if you’re looking for a mindless, colourful, action, adventure film with some witty one-liners – then you’ll love this. The five star rating is for the condition of the product. No problems with the case, disc, or shipping of the product.
