Ideal everyday knife
I wanted a knife for general everyday use, and as someone whose life is mostly urban and not as outdoors as I’d like, I settled on the Hiker. With Victorinox offering such a staggering variety of options, I looked into the various tool configurations and this seemed to be best for me.First of all, you know you’re going to get a solid knife from Victorinox. I had my first one as a child around 30 years ago and I don’t feel like the quality has dropped at all in that time. They’re solid, well made, the blades come nice and sharp and, although I’ve not had to test it in any particularly trying situations, they do feel tough enough to withstand a great deal of use. Looked after properly, I’m confident this will last me as long as I want it to. I’ve given it a drop of oil when the hinges started to stiffen slightly, but haven’t needed to sharpen the blades yet and they’re still going strong.I’ve used every tool on here at some point. The two blades are perfect for opening heavily-taped parcels of different sizes, and I’ve also done a little bit of small wood carving with them. Also useful for cutting apples if you’re that way inclined. Screwdrivers speak for themselves, and although I’d use an actual screwdriver given the choice, it’s nice always having one to hand and they do the job fine. The bottle opener works well, and I’ve tried the can opener just because. It’s obviously not as easy as a normal kitchen one, but it works and could be a handy space-saver when camping. This is probably the one tool on the Hiker I wouldn’t miss, but since it’s also combined with the 3mm screwdriver, it does maximise the function.I’ve used the saw a couple of times and was amazed by how capable it is for the size — those teeth are no joke. Out walking one day, I found an uprooted young tree about 3” in diameter. Sawing off a section to take home for a project did need a little elbow grease but not nearly as much as you’d expect. It even cut through cleanly and neatly, leaving a nice flat surface. After watching some videos online I’ve realised how useful the saw is, actually. Although I haven’t tried it myself, it can be used to split fairly large logs, so would be all you need for preparing firewood. The reverse of the blade offers up all sorts of other uses, including peeling veg; this I have tried, and it’s surprisingly effective! Just be careful using the reverse, because it doesn’t lock open. The tucked-away toothpick and tweezers are a nice little edition. Although I’m yet to find many uses for the toothpick beyond the obvious, a pair of tweezers is always good to have for things like picking up tiny objects and planting seeds very precisely. The tweezers are a little bit flimsy, but they’re good enough, and the thin metal keeps them easy to store while cutting down the overall weight of the knife.Occasionally, I’ve thought it would be useful to have one of the models with scissors, but I don’t think I’d be willing to swap out another tool, and I like the size of this knife because it’s ideal for easy everyday carry. Most things I’d use the scissors for can be done with the small blade anyway — cutting string etc.I’m absolutely happy with my choice, and I’ve found myself reaching for it way more often than I’d expected. If I decide to buy a new knife and pass this down at some point, I’m confident it will still be working perfectly for many years to come.

Better than expected...
Although I own many, many knives,of all styles, and makes,I have never owned any Victorinox products,as TBH,I always thought the 'swiss army knife' was a product of style over function (I have had a couple of cheap replicas over the years, all which ended up in the bin),and I have to say,I was rather taken aback at the quality of this little tool!.The quality is unquestionable, all the blade/tool tolerances are spot on,all blades/tools are easily opened, but tight enough not to be wobbly in the slightest, and all seem of a high quality for the cost of the product (I paid £9.99).And unlike any of my other knives,or multi-tools,this one is totally UK EDC compliant,so I can carry it around in my pocket without worry, which makes a nice change!.If I was to 'nit pick',the only things I could pick up on are that the scales seem as though they would scratch fairly easily, and the two blades are a bit on the thin side for my liking, but they should be fine for day to day use, like package opening!.The blades are fairly sharp out of the box,but needed a bit of stropping to get them really sharp, but all my knife blades have needed some amount of work to get them to their best, including knives that cost 10 times the amount that this little Victorinox did!.All in all,a great little EDC,that has most of the tools you will use on a day to day basis,at a great price.TBH,I was so impressed with the quality,I shall be purchasing a Victorinox multi-tool,instead of a Leatherman for my Christmas present!.

This is a fantastic, sturdy
This is a fantastic, sturdy, tough little knife. As I have stated before, I have a large collection of Swiss Army knives and the toughest are the alox models, that's a given...the Farmer has the most robust and useful selection of tools and it's my favourite... BUT!! The hiker has the same tool selection of tools PLUS a small blade,Philips screwdriver, toothpick and tweezers. Now then, I did some testing of my knives and have too say this hiker is a cracking tool! Here's why... 1/ an EDC should be low cost and easily replaceable, that's the hiker.. £15 is no money at all compared to the farmer which is anywhere between £25-£35. 2/ for some reason the narrower the SAK the more the backsprings seem to be a lot tighter and hold the tools in place more firmly than the larger models with more layers. 3/ you get a full length back spring on the saw just like the farmer and it's just as tough. 4/ the large screwdriver from 2000 onwards on the 91mm knives have a nib on the shank joining the body of the knife which helps it from shutting under pressure. As big and thicker the farmer driver is it doesn't have that feature. 5/ you can change the scales if damaged or if you want the plus scales to hold the pen, pin, as well as the toothpick and tweezers. This is one of the most popular swiss army knives and one of victorinox's best sellers. I have 4 of these little diamonds now so I can always lay my hand on one.. if I'm going to give a SAK to someone for a present then it will always be a hiker.. it's that good and I highly recommend it. Go on YouTube and type in batoning with a swiss army knife to see just how tough this little knife is..

Still the best pocket knives available
The Hiker is a fairly standard knife but I like the fact it has a Philips screwdriver instead of the usual corkscrew, excellent knife delivered in perfect condition so I recommend the seller too ..thanks
