Definitely needed for the Rimmel gel colour coats.
I've been buying the Rimmel gel effect nail varnish for years, not realising it was a 2 coat system. Always less than impressed how often the gel needs touching up or completely removing and reapplying.The second coat is a game changer. Adds shine, considerably increases durability and even strengthens the nails so they're less prone to chipping and breaking. It isn't bulletproof, but it's a lot more robust than the gel colour alone.Ignore the promised drying times. This needs a full 10 minutes between coats if you want it to apply properly. The clearcoat will eat into the colour and there's a good chance the whole thing will never dry properly and will remain soft if you rush it.

Lovely nail varnish
Beautiful colour. Varnish is long lasting. Dries quickly. Nice thickness, no real need for second coat.

Nice and glossy, lasts 1 week.
I chose the shade Sexy Santa (!). It still seemed a little transparent near the bottom of my nails after 2 coats. Takes a little bit more time to dry properly so did a coat at night, then one the next day, then the top coat (DONT FORGET TO BUY THE TOP COAT!) in the afternoon. You have to be quick with the top coat in one swipe or it becomes "sticky" and drags off the colour underneath. It smells really strong too. First 2 photos are freshly applied, next photo is 7 days later (started to chip at the sides), next photo is 10 days later, next photo is immediately after removal (no staining). Wasn't difficult to remove. It definitely lasted a bit longer than other varnishes but not 2 weeks. Its also really nice and glossy. I'm not careful with my nails - mum of 2 young kids, so this was a good value look for nice nails. Now that I've bought the top coat I will probably buy more colours.
